Some potential hard truths and objectively positive things to think about for the Yankees a 🧵

1. George Lombard Jr is turning it on in a big way and seems likely to be ready to help in 2026, permanently displacing Anthony Volpe reps at the plate

2. The Yankees need to be aggressive on the trade market for Luis Arraez knowing that the DH spot should not be kept unoccupied for Stanton’s potential arrival

This team needs more answers than questions and Stanton provides too much uncertainty already playing from behind in the division

3. Need to make a decision between now and the August 2nd deadline if you’re dead set on McMahon starting at third base or not so you can make sense of a Jazz positional change to accommodate for Luis Arraez taking over second base.

Based on Jazz’s team-first lately approach— I speculate he’d be open to the move provided a roster addition is the reason for the move itself

4. Trade for Ryan Jeffers. He will be available and don’t bother trying to win the trade.

Avoiding a loss in trade value is a sure-fire way to play yourself into a less than ideal fit (contact first bat at a clear positional need) and settling for a power hitting catcher that will fail come October

5. Make Aaron Judge your full-time DH upon his return to the Bronx

He’s electric in the outfield but we didn’t make him the captain of this team to play the field. His value is predominantly felt in the batter’s box

6. Don’t be afraid to add a veteran bat in the outfield if you ultimately decide to move Jones and/or Dominguez to chase Skubal or a catcher

Judge moving to DH full-time frees up a spot in the outfield with Grisham also on a deal expiring this winter

7. Don’t be afraid to say no on Mason Miller if it’ll negatively impact your pursuit of acquiring bats first

The emergence of Brent Headrick and re-emergence of David Bednar put you in a more flexible position to put the bullpen as a luxury upgrade and not a necessity

Negotiate as if this is the case because it is

8. If Jones isn’t traded this deadline, call him up and stop the grift that development happens in triple-a but not the big leagues

It’s okay for him to be a part-time player and that role is better than full-time hitting off a bunch of minor league jabronis

The Aaron Boone era will be defined by losing to every single rival the Yankees have had.

That’s worse than every single summer swoon combined. It’s embarrassing to have this happen for eight years and who knew that 2018 ALDS was a sign of things to come. This roster has gone through SO much change over the years and it still happens over and over again.

Something is seriously wrong and has been for a while. Always good but never great.

Here’s what I know about the Yankees:

1. The roster isn’t good enough and this was obviously the case opening day

2. Aaron Boone has proven he can’t lead a team to consistent effort + overall a higher baseline output given the roster at hand

3. Brian Cashman has proven too passive to run the most recognizable and commercial franchise in the sport

4. Matt Blake is the lone highlight on staff that has his flaws as well, however that’s normal to find of any staff member in history

5. Hitting coach James Rowsen has no idea what he’s doing (addition of “upper cut” to Austin Wells)

Seriously? Not much else is needed here

6. Aaron Judge needs to be far more outspoken with not just this group but every group he leads from here on

7. The Yankees need to figure out if they want short term solutions in Trent Grisham or a chance to see Dominguez/Jones (no right answer just pick a lane)

8. Hal Steinbrenner (despite it’s unlikelihood) is the only person important in all this

Without him agreeing he’s seen enough from this umbrella of ineptitude, this franchise will never win anything meaningful on his watch
