⭕ Most of these candidates contest with no real campaign, no ideas, no message, and no chance of getting at least 1% of the vote.

⭕ It's difficult to comprehend the mindset of someone who claims to be running 'for the people,' yet knowingly allows the government to needlessly spend Rs. 200 million of taxpayer money for their five minutes of fame.

🇱🇰 VISA ISSUE: What the PMD statement doesn't say:

⭕ The visa issuance *process* will continue to be handled solely by the VFS Global.

⭕ The gov will reduce the old visa fee from $60 to around $25 to accommodate the ~$25 service charge and convenience fee by VFS Global, in order for the all-inclusive fee to be $50.

⭕ The gov may have to pay from its own pocket for the service fees and convenience fees charged by VFS Global for the 'free visa' of they are truly free.

⭕ VFS Global will receive a significant % of the $24.8 billion Rupees (in Dollar income) that Sri Lanka earned from visa fees last year, which previously went directly into the treasury's coffers.

This applies in Sri Lanka too .. AFAIK @RW_UNP is not generally referred to as a corrupt politician. But clearly we can't say that about people he surrounds himself with.

One day we too need a president who says the same as President Bukele - (s)he will not have rogues in her/his team. Everyone will be investigated (retroactively and into the future) and the crap ones will go to jail.

CBSL have more than 1200 employees and they have received salary hikes ranging from 29% to 89%, costing Rs 232 million monthly.

⭕ The salary is just the tip of the iceberg. The real difference between CBSL & the other SMEs and government services comes from the other benefits.

⭕ CBSL employees enjoy an insurance package a C-level executive of a top private firm in SL would be jealous of. Loans exceeding 10 million with a concessionary 2%-4% rate financed by the CBSL are very common among the employees. They enjoy various other incentives, bonuses, coverage of course fees, and even transport to and from their homes to CBSL is provided for.

⭕ The justification for this, which comes from the CBSL Governor, is that they haven't used public finances to fund these projects, narrowly defining only the money from the consolidated fund (i.e., the government's tax money account) as public finance.
