Another player who is similar to Christos Tzolis is Mathias Fernandez from Lille.
I've watched both quite a bit (comps) and there are actually a lot of similarities in the way they play. Both are aggressive when driving at defenders, both are comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces, and both have that ability to create something out of nothing when the game looks stagnant.
What I really like about Fernandez is his technical level. He's very clean on the ball, carries it well over distance and has that unpredictability that makes defenders uncomfortable. The type of player that can break a defensive structure with one action.
That being said, if I'm choosing between the two, I'd still lean towards Tzolis.
The reason is simple: goals.
At the end of the day, attackers are judged on output and Tzolis has shown a much stronger ability to consistently get on the scoresheet. It's one thing to look good in possession, it's another thing to turn performances into goals and decisive moments.
Fernandez is a player I rate highly and I think he still has room to develop that side of his game. But right now, Tzolis gives you the creativity, the directness and the end product. That's what separates them for me.
Fernandez is quality though. Very underrated player and one I don't see enough people talking about.
If Arsenal are genuinely looking for a low-budget but still impressive replacement for Christian Nørgaard, then I'd seriously be looking towards Spain and keeping a close eye on Mallorca midfielder Samú.
I've watched a fair bit of him and I can't lie, he gives me some serious prime Granit Xhaka vibes. Not in the flashy, highlight-reel sense, but in the way he controls his area of the pitch. He's positionally disciplined, wins his aerial duels, isn't afraid of a tackle and has that physical presence that Premier League midfields usually demand.
At 25, he's entering what should be the best years of his career and probably wouldn't cost anywhere near some of the names being linked around Europe. In a market where average players are suddenly being valued at £50m-£60m, finding someone who can genuinely contribute without destroying the budget should be a priority.
That said, there is one thing that worries me. His discipline. The amount of yellow cards he picks up is definitely something Arsenal would need to assess carefully. The Premier League is unforgiving and a midfielder who constantly walks the disciplinary tightrope can become a problem over a long season.
Still, if Arsenal are searching for value in the market rather than another headline signing, Samú is one of those names I'd be keeping an eye on. Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I honestly think he'd surprise a lot of people if given the chance. :::
None of them congratulated us when we won the PL but couldn’t wait to dunk on us now. This is why 80% of premier league teams be playing their World Cup final vs Arsenal while bending over backwards for City
