What's Founder Mode really like?

I have my own spin.

Everyone wants to "get big" when they have a startup, but they often forget what got them there in the first place. This is the danger in growing a startup and why so many fail.

So, what's the secret sauce?

𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚.

To me, being in Founder Mode is both a superpower and a test of endurance.

As we grow as co-founders, we're motivated to stay in Founder Mode and not move into "Manager Mode" which, as Paul Graham highlighted in his recent essay, can be the beginning of the end for startups.

You start in hustle mode and then you suddenly give up all control and become a manager? That's something we're not willing to accept.

It's not easy, though. I'll admit.

This is the reality of Founder Mode:

Quick Pivots: We've pivoted quickly to adapt and innovate. Listening to our users and making swift decisions.

User Feedback: We're always tuned into what our users think. This direct line to our users helps us improve every day.

Speedy Decisions: No red tape! Go, go, go.

Fast Shipping: Getting product updates out fast is the name of the game. Taskade's features evolve rapidly to meet our users changing needs. We love it.

It's not all fun and games.

There are many challenges when you move fast.

Wearing Multiple Hats: From coding to marketing, I’ve done it all.

Long Hours: Burning the midnight oil is common.

Losing Sleep: Sleepless nights come with the territory.

Stress & Delegation: The stress is intense, and delegating can be tough.

As Paul highlighted, “the conventional wisdom about how to run a startup is not only wrong, but dangerously wrong. It’s not just that startups should move fast and break things. Startups have to keep moving fast and breaking things, even after they're big.”

As we grow, I'm constantly thinking about how to do it right. We don't want to lose what made us so special at the start. We have to keep breaking things. We have to move fast.

So, while being in Founder Mode isn’t for the faint-hearted, it’s what makes startups, like @Taskade and many others, special.
