As the new year starts, we wanted to give an end of year recap from the Y24Q4 plans, where things were, where they've gone, and what's coming up for Q1.

Q4 In Review

Message Delivery
As Q4 was in progress, we outlined the remaining work going into the months of November and December.
(https://t.co/TTphOHtbf7) At that time, we were hitting message delivery issues due to the sheer scale of nodes on the network, which was prompting heavy engineering work that resulted in the 2.0.4-p1 and 2.0.5 releases. Both of these accumulatively brought delivery reliability up to the levels we were needing, and vastly improved throughput as well.

Interactive Dashboard and Explorer
The dashboard and explorer launched on Dec 6, (https://t.co/DhsudvVctv) giving valuable insights to the protocol and helping people determine what was right for them in how they were managing their nodes. The ongoing enhancements to the explorer APIs also enabled a more user friendly bridge experience.

2.1 Progress
2.1 has been an eagerly anticipated release, and has had two primary tracks of work going into it: dogfooding and verifying developer APIs, and rolling out protocol-level changes to our public testnet. Our next milestones for testnet are rolling out soon, but we took the opportunity to get early dogfooding on our APIs and SDKs with the beta release of our flagship encrypted messenger, Quorum

Quorum
Quorum was our Christmas surprise (and boy did it surprise us too during the deployment process). After scaling back the initial feature set so beta testing could begin, we got great feedback from early users who may not have realized it, but were also beta testing our 2.1 SDK. In the first 24 hours after deployment, we amassed over 7400 unique users!

Some were quick to point out that people can make multiple accounts as a criticism, but this is critical to the security of the application: we do not track users, we do not have any meaningful data collected that can identify users – this is a privacy-preserving messaging application. At best, we can provide information on the number of unique accounts, the number of message sending events on the platform, and the number of active user addresses at any given time. And these numbers paint a powerful picture for a brand new product launched over a holiday:

We are now at nearly 10,000 unique users on Quorum, have processed an average of over 14k messages per day in the first week (this number is increasing day over day), and have ranged between 300-1,500 active users at any given time.

So what's next?
We're staying on track with the roadmap for Q1 (https://t.co/sx5xBLgb1o):
- Getting 2.1 milestones completed and verified on testnet, then launching 2.1 on mainnet
- Opening up access to the S3 and KMS API previews for interested developers
- Re-adding the spaces feature to Quorum and onboarding some large communities interested in migrating from Discord to a safer, more secure alternative
- Launching Quorum Apex and the premium username marketplace
- More news we can't wait to share, but for legal reasons, we have to. 😉
