A Muslim man was brutally assaulted by a group of right-wing vigilantes in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, after he was seen with a Hindu woman. The woman was also assaulted assaulted by the right wing goons as she repeatedly tried to shield and save the man from the attackers. Police rescued the couple and took them to the police station. The goons are yet to be identified and arrested despite them giving media statements of the bravery. Let's hope the authorities don't end up taking action against the couple instead of those responsible for the assault.

These lines should be written on first page of every NCERT textbook.
Enough of the slavery mindset!
Baruipur rape and murder of a minor and subsequent public lynching and police encounter killing of two suspects, are not only heinous , it is also an example of a planned execution of series crimes beyond criminal justice.

The long-awaited dream of poor illegal deportees of Birbhum has finally come true. After a legal battle that lasted for more than a year, today marked the return of Sweety Biwi, her two minor sons, and Sunali Khatun's husband to their mother land after they were allegedly illegally deported to Bangladesh. As you all know, Sunali Khatun had already returned in December last year.
I salute the Indian judiciary. It was only because of the judiciary's intervention that the Union government was ultimately compelled to bring back these poor Indian citizens who had allegedly been deported to Bangladesh on the suspicion of being infiltrators.
We have no objection to the deportation of those who are genuinely illegal infiltrators. However, our fundamental question remains: why should poor and genuine Indian citizens be subjected to such harassment and injustice in the name of deportation?
The Supreme Court had ordered the return of all those who remained stranded in Bangladesh. Although the order was issued on May 22 this year and its implementation was delayed, today justice has finally prevailed. Truth has triumphed, and these families have at last received the justice they deserved.
I sincerely thank advocates @sanjayuvacha, Soumya Dutta, Raghunath Chakraborty, and all the other learned lawyers who fought this legal battle with dedication and perseverance.
From day one, we stood beside these families and took up the challenge of ensuring the safe return of those who were allegedly illegally deported to a foreign land. Today, truth has prevailed. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to everyone who returned home today.

@kaushikrj6 I am reading the book now. It appears that the Indian state fears Umar not because he is a Muslim intellectual. Their main fear is Umar's deep knowledge of India's Adivasi communities and his love for them.
My piece on Indian citizenship debate for your comments. The future of millions of deleted/doubtful (D) voters from the voter's list make them extremely vulnerable in their own country.
For four days, the passport travails of R.Rajagopal, former Editor of 'The Telegraph', has drawn national media and political attention.
Yet, not a word in the Calcutta newspaper for four days running, notwithstanding the intricacies of the case? Amazing. @ttindia@devdanmitra
