Very cool! I’d be interested in how SDC and FCDO can work together more in this space.

[Embassy of Switzerland in Nairobi @SwissEmbassyKE]

In #Hargeisa, SDC saw how Private Sector Partnerships for Health and Culture 4 Peace are driving private investment in healthcare, stronger coordination, heritage preservation and new opportunities for creative entrepreneurs through #MarketSystemsDevelopment.

Why waste management matters:
👉 consults at local and central levels of government
👉 crowds in private sector investment
👉 leads to cleaner, healthier and more resillient communities.

[Louise Hancock @HeadBritOffice]

🌱Big step forward for environmental sustainability in #Somaliland.

With support from the UK through the #Sinaan program, local & national authorities adopted solid waste management laws that will transform waste management across municipalities.

Next challenge: implementation.

Incredible to visit Las Geel caves in #Somaliland and see the ancient rock paintings - snapshots of life from over 5000 years ago.

[Louise Hancock @HeadBritOffice]

Great for @CharlesKingFCDO and I to catch up with Chevening Alumni in #Somaliland. Encouraging to see how many have gone on to serve in the public sector, applying the knowledge, skills, and experience gained through their UK education to help drive positive change.

[Tatiana Fernandes 🇬🇧 @diplotat]

Families across #Somaliland are facing challenges due to climate shocks, strained basic services and economic hardship. Thank you to the city of #Hargeisa for bringing families in the Digaale community local empowerment, opportunity and stability.

[Louise Hancock @HeadBritOffice]

Displacement can’t be a permanent reality for families. @CharlesKingFCDO met Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Mayor of Hargeisa and Alight who’re supporting durable solutions for displaced communities. Encouraging efforts to help people move from dependency to opportunity.

I also met @abaarsonetwork alumni Abdisalan who is heading to @StirUni later this year. We spoke about family, politics, life in the UK, his passion for education, climate concerns, and Scottish idioms! From Somaliland to Scotland - can’t wait to follow his journey. Good luck!

[Tatiana Fernandes 🇬🇧 @diplotat]

Tea with Fadumo tonight - one of Somaliland’s pioneering nurses and midwives. Women like her are at the heart of development: saving lives, bringing new ones safely into the world, and educating the next generation with a truly transformative impact. Feeling inspired 🫶

My heartfelt sympathies go to everyone injured in the Algarve tornado today, including the family of the British national who sadly lost her life.

We are in close contact with Portuguese authorities and our consular staff are ready to provide support.

An honour to represent the British Office at today's Remembrance Day ceremony in Hargeisa.
