EXCLUSIVE: "Oil Mafia Blocked Us for Five Years" โ Dangote Reveals Hidden Battles, Building Private Port to Beat Saboteurs
Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has opened up about the fierce resistance his refinery faced from powerful oil mafia elements, revealing that everything was blocked for five years, starting from the launch in 2013.
Speaking on the challenges, Dangote disclosed that no port in Nigeria could handle the heavy equipment required for the project, forcing his team to build a private port, a harbour, roads, and a massive water system with a 440 million-litre capacity.
"Our water facility alone covers more than 30 hectares," he added.

An urgent update on Sudan. I beg you all to share this far and wide.
Across Sudan, acute malnutrition is expected to worsen in 2026 according to the alert, with a 13.5% increase in cases of acute malnutrition in children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women โ from 3.7 million children and women in 2025, to nearly 4.2 million in 2026. Violent conflict ensues, undermining humanitarian service delivery and disrupting peopleโs access to agriculture production and livelihoods, exacerbating vulnerability and suffering.
Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) โ the most dangerous and deadly form of extreme hunger โ is expected to increase to 800,000 cases, up 4% since 2025.
