The 21st Asian Heritage Month Gala organized by the Canadian Multicultural Council - Asians in Ontario (CMC-AO) was an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage, longstanding traditions, and remarkable contributions of Asian communities across Ontario and Canada.
CMC-AO plays a vital role in fostering unity, promoting cultural understanding, and strengthening the vibrant multicultural fabric that defines our province. CMC-AO has created a platform that brings together diverse communities, encourages collaboration, and inspires future generations to take pride in their heritage while contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious society.
As we celebrate Asian Heritage Month in May, let us reflect on the achievements of Asian Canadians and reaffirm our shared commitment to equity, respect, and opportunity for all.
Congratulation to Dr. Cindy Gouveia , Venerable Chuehfan, Paul Nguyen, Nina Lee Aquino, Ivan Sharma, Crystine Zhang, Tracy Wong, and the other outstanding Asian awards recipients for their contribution to the Asian community and Ontario.

Commemorating April 30, 1975.
Sharing a photo from 16 years ago with the late MP Paul Dewar. Paul’s mother Marion spearheaded Project 4000 in 1979 to sponsor Vietnamese Boat People. Her initiative influenced the government to increase its national quota to 50,000 refugees.
Honoured to receive the 2026 Hua Cai Award at TIFF Bell Lightbox for my filmmaking and community work in Jane and Finch. Congratulations to my fellow recipients, including Person of the Year @kingofbaystreet. Special thx @justinpoy
The Finch West LRT (Line 6) opens Dec. 7. Proud to see the Jane-Finch community featured in the Toronto Star talking about this game-changing connection. Check out my comments in the article:
Rest in peace, Beverly Thomson (Apr. 15, 1964 – Sept. 14, 2025). The legendary CTV anchor came to Jane & Finch nearly 20 years ago, in August 2005, to film a live Canada AM segment. She was as kind and funny as ever. A true pro and a wonderful person.
A pleasure to join Skyky Foundation founder Echo Liu, @Aris_Babikian and the many art teachers, sponsors and parents in support of children in the arts at Xinflix Studios.

#Toronto’s Vietnamese community is nearly 100,000 strong, and I was proud to join them to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Journey to Freedom Day, which marks the exodus of Vietnamese refugees from the aspiring democracy of South Vietnam.
Together, we acknowledge & thank 🇨🇦 for welcoming #BoatPeople, including my parents, and affirm our commitment to defending democracy and standing up to the oppression & evil of radical ideologies and communism.
Honoured to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Honourable Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament for Humber River-Black Creek. Congratulations to all fellow recipients!
