In de periode 1990-2008 steeg gestaag het elektriciteitsverbruik van de NL industrie en daalde de gasvraag.
Sindsdien daalde het elektriciteitsverbruik sterk, nu weer op niveau 1990.
Sinds 2019 daalt ook het gasverbruik, vooral door offshoring productie.

US LNG exporters are asking Europe to pause its methane rules.

The timing couldn't be more loaded.

American LNG suppliers want the EU to delay enforcement of its methane emissions regulations until at least 2028.

The argument:
the rules are already creating enough uncertainty to freeze long-term supply deals at exactly the moment Europe needs to lock in alternatives to Russian gas.

The EU's methane regulation requires importers to verify and report emissions from upstream gas production.

For US LNG, that means tracing emissions back to the wellhead across shale basins, gathering systems, and liquefaction terminals.

US exporters say the compliance infrastructure isn't ready.
The data standards aren't agreed and the uncertainty is making buyers hesitate before signing 15-20 year offtake contracts.

Europe spent 2022-2024 scrambling to replace Russian pipeline gas with US LNG.
It largely succeeded.
Now its own environmental rules are introducing new friction into the contracts that would lock in that supply long-term.

For US exporters, the stakes are real.
FIDs on new LNG terminals require contracted volumes. Contracted volumes require buyers willing to sign.

Buyers won't sign if they're uncertain about compliance costs they can't yet quantify.

A regulatory delay to 2028 would give both sides time to agree on measurement methodology before enforcement bites.

This is a fight about sequencing whether the rules arrive before or after the measurement infrastructure exists to comply with them.

Our Constitution protects it.

Since you yourself recently urged against conducting diplomacy via Twitter, I suggest that we discuss all these issues during a meeting in Israel at a time that suits you best, in order to put an end to any misinterpretations.

De Belgische Staat en ENGIE starten officieel onderhandelingen met het oog op de overname door #België van alle nucleaire activiteiten van ENGIE en haar dochteronderneming Electrabel.

Alle ontmantelingswerken worden dan ook opgeschort.

Minder dan een jaar na de inwerkingtreding van de wet die de weg vrijmaakt voor de terugkeer van #kernenergie in ons land, krijgt die dynamiek concreet vorm via onze wil om opnieuw de controle te nemen over onze activa en capaciteiten.

Deze stap past binnen een coherente politieke visie: zorgen voor betaalbare, stuurbare en koolstofarme energie, en tegelijk de strategische autonomie en soevereiniteit van België versterken.

Ik heb hier best wel wat moeite mee. Terwijl TenneT (na diepgaande analyse) de overheid oproept actie te ondernemen om de leveringszekerheid na 2030 te waarborgen, stelt de Wetenschappelijke (!) Klimaatraad (zonder onderzoek) vandaag in @trouw dat er 'gewoon' geen probleem is.
