So excited to kick off our qualitative research methods bootcamp with @ashleytrubin, author of Rocking Qualitative Social Science: An Irreverent Guide to Rigorous Research!

I've been reading a *lot* of research lately and I can't tell you how often people use a gap in the literature to motivate their work. If you go this route, be sure to explain *why* the gap needs filling. The mere presence of a gap is not motivation enough.
Doing the page proofs for #RockingQualSocSci and forgot that I had this line in there: "Some people will judge you for that but fuck them—sleep comes first." I love that I wrote this (and that the publisher didn't make me change it)! #AreYouADirtbagger@DirtbagMethods
How do you come up with a research question for your #qualitative proj?
Do you need to have one before you start collecting your data?
It really depends on your goals and how big a hurry you're in!
#RockingQualSocSci has a whole chapter on this!
It's not like there's this book someone wrote that features a bunch of instructions on how to use historical and archival data for qual social science analysis. https://t.co/gW66fAc89J
Ever hear someone say randomization is the only proper sampling selection? Yeah, that doesn't always work so well in #qualmeth.
#RockingQualSocSci discusses the ins and outs of #sampling strategies and how to pick the best approach for your #qualitative proj.
How do you *know* you are right? What are some things you can do to boost your confidence when using #qualmeth to engage in #causalinference?
#RockingQualSocSci discusses some tools and tricks in Chapter 10.
Congratulations to @ashleytrubin as her book “Rocking Qualitative Social Science” is going to be published in August 2021. If interested in participating in a workshop on #qualmeth, book talk, or any info related to the book, please sign up here -

"Your sample size is too small!"
#AcademicTwitter, raise your hand if you've heard that before? 🙋♀️
#RockingQualSocSci discusses how this critique gets overused and what are some better ways to evaluate sample size in qualitative projects.
"You're sampling on the dependent variable!"
Ummm.... That's not always a bad thing. #RockingQualSocSci explains why, and when it's okay to sample on the DV!

#RockingQualSocSci is mainly for grad students and early career scholars, but I'm hoping everyone can learn something from it, whether they use qualitative methods or not! A big focus is how to properly evaluate #qualmeth since so many misconceptions exist.
