“I don’t have any confidence in him anymore. I think he’s all over the place — he’s accelerating the retirement or forcing out some of the most distinguished leaders in the DOD that we have,” said Senator Thom Tillis, who has not been shy about criticizing the administration due to his looming retirement.

Unfortunately for Donald Trump, Tillis’ vote will be crucial if Trump wants to ram through a budget resolution before the August recess. The White House is absurdly requesting an additional $73 billion for Pentagon and intelligence spending, the lion’s share of which will be wasted on the Iran War.

Countless Americans are struggling to even afford groceries, but the President wants to burn through our taxes to wage a war he can’t win on behalf of Israel’s national interests. And standing at the front of this historic debacle is Hegseth, a man who would be out of his depths in two inches of water.

“I think he’s got a massive insecurity complex, he has a lack of experience in large organizations, he micromanages too much. He’s lost my confidence,” Tillis said of Hegseth.

But Tillis isn’t the only Republican who feels this way. He revealed that there are “other people” who are just “one decision or another” away from speaking out against Hegseth’s disastrous tenure. Given how quickly this alcoholic, washed up Fox News host makes mistakes, we will inevitably reach the tipping point where the political cost of speaking out (and thus incurring the ire of the MAGA base) is more palatable than the cost of silence.

The Hill spoke to an anonymous Republican senator who is “close to Defense policymakers” and they revealed just how dire the confidence crisis has become for Hegseth.

“I have heard out of the Pentagon that there’s a loss of confidence — within the Pentagon. And of course then everyone here on the Hill hears those same concerns,” the lawmaker said.

In addition to the botched Iran War, Hegseth has instituted a culture of ignorance and fear at the Pentagon, derailing the promotions of highly qualified female service members and forcing respected, experienced leaders into early retirement.

“Everybody knows about some of the Game of Thrones stuff going on with some of the other service secretaries and Hegseth,” said Tillis. “It seems like he wants to run the whole place.”

“When you’re a leader, you better damn sure have people smarter than you in the room,” he added. “You’re supposed to be air traffic control for all these brilliant people and he’s undermining the DOD’s success by undermining these brilliant people who spent their career in uniform.”

The problem is that with Hegseth, no matter what room he steps into, every single person in it is smarter than him. But rather than embrace his own profound intellectual limitations, he lashes out, childishly punishing people for knowing more than him. His perfect version of the Pentagon is a building full of 80 IQ men (because he only wants men around him) who do nothing but flatter his ego and praise his idiotic decisions.

Another Republican senator told The Hill that there are “rumblings” about the stunning failure to anticipate Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz — which virtually every geopolitical analyst predicted.

“I think there’s a sense it’s taken longer than what we thought and that maybe our strategy didn’t factor in the Strait of Hormuz or [Iran’s] ability to be willing to hit their neighbors. I think there was some miscalculations maybe,” the senator said.

What would happen to you and your job if you performed as poorly as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth?

On a Friday night in Red Bank, New Jersey, a man in a thousand-dollar suit and his wife sit down at a small wooden table near the window.

They have driven down from Manhattan for dinner. They have heard about this place from a friend.

A few feet away, a thin man in his sixties slips off his coat.

He has been homeless for more than a year. A caseworker told him there was a restaurant where he could earn a hot meal by washing dishes afterward.

Across the room, two Rutgers University-Newark students study the menu.

They have just ten dollars between them. Like many students on their campus, they live with food insecurity.

The waiter arrives.

There are no prices.

The wealthy couple is told the suggested donation is thirty dollars, with the option to cover someone else's meal.

The homeless man is offered another choice.

Donate if he can. Volunteer if he cannot. Either way, he will eat the same dinner, and no one will ever know which path he chose.

The students hear the very same words.

Every table orders the same meal.

Spring artichoke bisque. Soul-seasoned grilled chicken over angel hair pasta. House-made dessert. Coffee.

Every plate looks identical.

The ingredients are organic. The chef trained at the Culinary Institute. The service never changes.

By the end of dinner, nobody knows who paid, who volunteered, or who arrived with almost nothing.

That is the point.

The restaurant is JBJ Soul Kitchen.

Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea, opened it in October 2011 after she was inspired by a pay-what-you-can café during the financial crisis.

She believed dignity should come before charity.

So every guest would be treated exactly the same.

The idea worked.

Within months, the restaurant was full every night. It later became one of New Jersey's highest-rated restaurants while quietly helping thousands of people eat with dignity instead of shame.

The mission kept growing.

New locations opened. Affordable housing was built. Shelters, scholarships, and community partnerships followed. By March 2025, more than 200,000 meals had been served.

Jon Bon Jovi still shows up.

Sometimes he clears tables. Sometimes he talks with volunteers. Sometimes he simply sits down and eats beside everyone else.

There are no autograph lines.

Inside these walls, every person is just another guest.

The homeless man leaves with his dignity.

The couple from Manhattan leaves knowing they fed another table.

The students head home with full stomachs and the last ten dollars still in their pockets.

For one ordinary evening, they were all treated exactly the same.

That is the legacy still being served—one meal, one table, and one act of dignity at a time.

According to AP, it's directing the National Park Service to place signs outside a Smithsonian museum challenging the history presented inside and pointing visitors to an administration-approved interpretation.

The exhibit stays the same.
