“treat them like rational creatures” remains one of the most important feminist demands. stop romanticizing women as delicate little beings who need to be managed, protected and spoken for. being adored as an object is not the same thing as being respected as a person.
I was honestly floored when I saw people genuinely saying they don’t like first person POV books because “I would never do that” like you’re not supposed to read first person POV and actually put yourself into the character’s shoes, it’s not supposed to be you!!!
I’m happy the family member gripped him up right quick but what the actual FUCK how could he get away with deleting 300 fucking missing person files?!!!
An overlooked source of the literacy crisis is that many schools are dumbing down their curricula in response to the growing numbers of students who can’t read and won’t learn. There’s overwhelming pressure from parents and admins to pass every student. “Why are you teaching Beowulf / Shakespeare / Chaucer in high school?” they demand. One by one, books that every kid used to graduate knowing are being stripped from the syllabus. In time it becomes an education in name only.
the problem with AI isn't just that it's ugly and lazy, it's indicative of a culture uncaring about everything. you have to care about something. you have to care about what you're putting out in the world. you have to make effort somewhere so people can perceive it.

Ten years ago you could make jokes about Jane Eyre and Dracula on twitter and most people would get them; nowadays I have to explain references to Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit as if we’re living in a very on-the-nose film adaptation of Fahrenheit 451.
