you need to look at people's actions if you want to understand them, not just their stated beliefs. you vote for the candidate who is running on abolishing the department of education because he promises to own the libs, not because you believe it will help education
people need to realize that these are post-hoc explanations. we like to believe that action follows from belief, but in many instances it's the reverse. they voted for trump because he appealed to their status insecurity
Every so often (I mean frequently) I see a voter articulate their rationale in such a way that makes me want to smash a whole whiskey bottle across my head.
the voters in this focus group aren't lying, they simply lack insight into their own motivations. they voted for trump because they felt insecure and threatened, and he promised to hurt the groups responsible. they're not going to admit they are racist because they don't know it
@vanillaopinions i have a friend who has to wear a hearing aid after a covid infection. another got diabetes. another got POTS. another has brain damage affecting her memory and ability to think. i'm living knowing i did my best to prevent outcomes like this
@jewstein3000 totally agreed. "weird" is often used to mean neurodivergent, or disabled, or not conventionally attractive. i hate fascists because they are fascists, not because they're weird
