I was recently at a medical appointment where they had a sign on the wall telling patients we have the right to ask clinicians to wash their hands.

This did not help me feel safer or empowered.

I think a lot of people feel this way, especially younger folks. You all are living in a WILD world and often still try to live compassionately- thats a level of emotional maturity a lot of people dont have. I hope folks are able to extend themselves credit/grace when they can

Honestly I’ve hit my breaking point. On call this week and just crushed. It’s insanity to do a specialist consult on a complex patient in 20 minutes. If I take longer then urgent care is delayed and the pile gets bigger.

Now Sechelt hospital has no physician capacity and patients are being sent over to me in the night. For the first time in 22 years of medical practice I said no. It felt terrible because the patient gets caught in the middle.

It’s unsafe. It’s hurting me. It’s hurting my family. It’s hurting patients. Leadership at the highest level in the VCH health authority need to lead. I have dedicated 22 years to Lions gate hospital. I’m seriously contemplating resigning.

Whoever forms the next government needs to make people in highly paid positions in administration accountable. Done with mediocrity. Politicians can’t fix the system but they can demand accountability from those they hire in to these roles.
