@mattxyzed@jbarro I get a lot of flack on this website because of how I write about and approach disabled politicians, but to be clear you do actually still need to show up for work and do your job if you have a disability and a job.
@ChristianityOn Honestly, one of the most important things that helped me really date when I was younger was learning to be completely OK with a “no.”
I used to do first dates at a pie shop I liked so if the date didn’t go well I’d still get pie.
@JeremiahDJohns@ComArbatax “Why would you be happy with your body being like that? Why would it be a load-bearing part of your identity? Why would emerging treatment options change that? What is a legitimate choice or exercise in bodily autonomy and what is self harm or child abuse?” Tons of big questions!
@JeremiahDJohns@ComArbatax This stuff is actually really sticky and interesting and it’s really frustrating when people keep asking “but why would you want to live like that? Are you stupid?” ad nauseum.
Insert my regular plug for more outlets hiring disability beat reporters.
Children, out in public, are a sign of a healthy society and the desire to sequester them is both antisocial and antifeminist (because women do most care work).
This is also true of disabled adults who may make unusual sounds or act out.
No one wants a romantic dinner ruined by a screaming child at the next table.
According to a new survey, 75% of Americans say restaurants should offer some kind of adults-only dining experience to avoid unruly kids.
That includes child-free sections, restrictions during late-night hours, and quieter dining environments focused more on the experience than family-friendly chaos.
@ryancbriggs@PolisciMonica I think more people need to take some responsibility for their own comfort and not expect the world to conform to their specific preferences.
@Etanarachel I think if they are earnestly marketing to “neurodivergent” people, we have much higher rates of eating disorder and disordered eating vs. gen pop. And if they’re treating “neurodivergent” like an astrology sign rather than a disability, that is bad for other reasons.
