Hi followers! Firstly thank you, great to see you here 😊 I aim to post some conversation starters and questions soon about how our perspectives, shared/lived experience impact us. If there’s anything people want to ask or raise anonymously you can DM me and I’ll redact 😊
Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay . Self-care may help with supporting your mental health, but we wanted to highlight the things that really need to change!
As a service, we hope by living to our values we can address some of these barriers, but what we need are system changes!
Hi all welcome back! I hope you had a lovely summer 🌞.
I’m now in a new, part time role and I wondered wether monthly or termly online group supervision sessions may be useful for my fellow D/ND EP/AEPs & trainees? #TwitterEPs#adayinthelifeofatrainee
Today we say a sad farewell to one of our trainees who will be taking up a qualified post 'down South' in September! Well done, Matt! We will miss you but wish you the best of luck in your new service. Thank you for your passion and advocacy over the last two years! #TwitterEP
I have ofc skipped the huge societal barriers there are for us here before we even reach training. I wonder if sharing these with each other could be cathartic but also drive some sort of change in the future…
Hi @DandNDEPs so… what have been the biggest barriers for you in practice/training? you can DM if preferred and I’ll comment for you anonymously #TwiterEPs#DisabilityTwitter for me it’s dealing with discrimination towards children on a regular basis. The emotional toll. 1/2
Practically the driving and frequent typing causes me pain these days, carrying kit/equipment, the standing up to observe or chat, being greeted on day one of uni with 8 flights of stairs and broken lift also sticks in mind… 🤦🏻♀️ should probably let that go it’s been a while 😂
At the #DisDheff23 Anti-ableist and Anti-racist @iHuman @EducationSheff event organised by @AntonisKtenidis and colleagues - promoting the makings of community
Are neurotypical people good at “reading” autistic minds? The autistic people in my focus groups say they are not.
Many people at #IPrA2023 had never heard of Double Empathy. It’s been more than 10 years since @milton_damian first published about it. Time to check it, linguists!
Hi #DandNDEPs let’s start with a positive: what value does your lived experience bring to your EP/AEP/TEP role? #TwitterEPs I sometimes feel like it privileges me in terms of connecting with YPs+ parents!
(FYI, I am physically disabled and I had a statement at school)
Importantly don’t feel pressured to ‘disclose’. Protect your well-being by whatever this means for you. I’d love this to feel like a safe space to be open about the good and bad bits of being a disabled/ND EP. Suggestions of topics are welcomed 💕#twitterEPs#DandNDEPs < #

We are Disabled Students UK.
We are on a mission to find out how accessible our universities are.
So far, over 700 students have filled in the first ever Annual Disabled Student Survey. Have you?
Make sure you have your say before 21st July!

Disabilities don’t define us, they are a part of us 🧡
#DisabilityPrideMonth means something different to each of us but the fight for disability representation and stopping the stigma is one we can all get on board with ✊🏾
Thank you @megemikoart for letting us share 🤍
