Can we just take a moment to reflect on this horrifying statistic…
Out of all the people currently in hospital with COVID in Wales, at least 72% of them were admitted for another reason and were infected with Covid SINCE THEY WERE ADMITTED.
Why is nothing done to prevent this?
Pleasure to do this podcast on the amazing amount we now know about the biomedical underpinnings of #LongCovid. Podcast can be accessed here https://t.co/qjUKA1OWfn - and see story below. @BurnetInstitute

Banger of a #LongCovid paper in pre-print today showing that replicating viral DNA can persist in hamsters up to 80 days after intranasal infection.
The study team were able to isolate and amplify infectious virus in 84% of experimental animals. 1/

CDC just confirmed 1st severe 🇺🇸 case of #H5N1#BirdFlu in a person in #Louisiana. This is not the virus circulating in cows. This is 2.3.4.4b genotype D1.1, the one found in wild birds that recently left a 🇨🇦 teen on a ventilator for wks (& still hospitalized). /1
If you do get Covid-19, make sure the infection chain stops with you.
NZ is still seeing hospitalisations, deaths, & Long Covid. You don't want these outcomes for anyone close to you.
Keep others safe if you get sick:
- Wear a mask
- Open windows
- Stay home while testing +ve.
The reporting of just a single newspaper & journalist with integrity can have ripple effect across the country
@Flinty_01 published an article on the Christmas Cvd wave & newly available boosters 🙏
News .com.au, MSN & even Sky News have since re-reported his content across Aus
Apparently not using sunscreen is the latest garbage going around this app.
Here is a malignant melanoma I successfully removed from a patient.
Thing they have in common?
No sunscreen either.
In fact 100% of my skin cancer list each week are people from the era of no sunscreen.
I guess one might call them the control group.
Sunscreen works. Wear it. Slip/slap/slop. UPF clothing and a wide brimmed hat.
X is allowing people with absolutely no qualifications or understanding to make harmful commentary, publicly.
Anyone thinking it’s only WA is kidding themselves
WA the only state w- PH willing to advise & @Flinty_01 willing to report
“75 rushed to hospital per day in WA as cvd outbreak booms before Xmas… cvd wave surging, authorities urging new booster” https://t.co/3dMkZGZ8GY
Most people think that Long Covid is a lingering cough & bit of fatigue.
I’ve felt flu-like & concussed every time I train for the last 3 years.
For context, I’m a former GB athlete, who trained 3 times a day.
And I’m a mild case..
The idea that LC only happens ‘the vulnerable’ needs to be challenged. I was a fit, healthy healthcare worker in my 30s when one Covid infection tore my life apart in 2020.
Great news!
We received our current supply of JN.1 vaccine 💉and have already used up the entire stock with more patients on the waiting list so reordering more.
Doing our best for our most vulnerable patients to protect them against severe disease from COVID especially as numbers surge and ED presentations and admissions will continue to increase.
#CovidIsntOver #VaccinesWork
Despite the Actuaries Institute changing their baseline to include cvd deaths,
2024 Excess Mortality data is higher than predicted
Especially the shocking 70% higher than expected cvd deaths 😮
Link to report in next post
Absolutely obscene and why public health and IPAC all over Canada and the western world deserves harsh criticism. Time to clean up your act people, recognize airborne transmission and use the precautionary principle. Mandatory masking in healthcare. Big thanks, @DrFiliatrault
COVID on the up in WA
Hospitalisations up as well to 75 every day
Not even close to the peak yet.
Christmas shopping, and New Year events really going to give COVID its super spreading ability.
Wonder if it will hit 100 hospitalisations a day?
Expect to hear a lot of hacking coughs, sneezing and illness when out and about.
Oh yes... and do you know what else (other than Covid) can damage your body and your immune system and make you more vulnerable to secondary infections... yep.
Norovirus.
