Oncologist serving people w/ #cancer in #MedEd#SciComm & #bcsm. Past ASCO Ed Chair. Cofounder @HCWvsHunger. #LongCovid. Team hope/good trouble/go high. No FCOI
My grandpa used to say “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” The 1st time I was old enough to get it, I said “That’s not fair!” He said “Exactly! So make it your life’s work to ensure everyone meets each other.” He’s 2 decades gone, but I’m still at it. #advocacy#MedEd
@pinkprincessin1 I am sorry for all of your suffering. And I know I speak for your whole far-flung #HCWvsHunger family when I say we are SO happy that you are still here. 💞
I trained as a doc in the era before any work hour restrictions. We learned a lot working >90 hrs/wk, but many also fell asleep driving home, struggled with mental health, delayed families, & more. Please read below & act to protect doctors in training & patients. #MedTwitter
Protect house staff and our patients from excess call burden and inadequate time between shifts! Deadline (10/22) approaching to protest proposed loosening of work hours restrictions for trainees. Relevant sections are screenshotted. Survey here: https://t.co/UntcOVIVeb
This is a big loss for virology and infectious disease community. Helen Branswell was a brilliant, ethical, evidence-based science journalist and was so reliable during the COVID pandemic. She never fell for the ridiculous conspiracies or raised false equivalencies just to get more clicks and readers, Helen was very special, I will miss her
Rest in power, @HelenBranswell.
A true legend in #SciComm + such a kind person. You are irreplaceable, but you leave the work in the best possible hands @statnews.
#OncTwitter, for all our progress, we have miles to go before we sleep. 😞Condolences to all who are missing her.
It is hard to believe that Helen Branswell has passed away. Just heartbreaking.
On January 4, 2020, Helen wrote STAT's first story on a mystery pneumonia outbreak in China. She saw the pandemic coming well before anyone was paying attention.
Helen was a journalist who knew more than most of the experts she interviewed. She understood the science, the history and the politics of every outbreak she covered. She asked the hardest (and best) questions and never let me get away with a vague answer
Experts learned from her. I certainly did
It's hard to imagine a world of pandemics, biological threats and so much more without a Helen Branswell to explain it all.

@jjmaxwell4 Great advice. As an oncologist, I would add that many docs don’t mind if you record the appt with permission, which lets you focus on the conversation rather than taking notes or memorizing. Alternatively, you can bring a relative/close friend whose job is just to take notes.
I got to know @rachnatshroff quite well through @SWOG and through our time together on the @ASCO Nominating Committee. A lot of people talk about mentorship and supporting the next generation of oncologists. Rachna devoted a substantial portion of her career to doing exactly that.
The photo below was taken in 2023 at the LEAD conference, a meeting dedicated to empowering women in oncology. I had the good fortune of serving as faculty that year. I share this image as a tangible example of the oncology trainees, at least within my own sphere, whose lives and careers she touched. I know for a fact that there are countless others.
The photo was taken shortly before she became the permanent chief at @UAZCancer. How Rachna balanced that role with a busy clinical practice, leadership responsibilities beyond her institution, and family life is beyond me. We often talk about burnout in oncology. Looking back, it sometimes seemed that Rachna possessed the antidote.
Usually alongside her best bud @ninashah33, she celebrated life with enthusiasm and intention, turning even the most routine meeting into an opportunity to gather friends, build camaraderie, and create lasting memories.
There is so much I learned from Rachna and so much that I will miss. My prayers are with her family, especially her two beautiful children. I hope that all of us will continue to honor her extraordinary legacy by carrying forward the generosity, mentorship, joy, and sense of community that she brought to our profession every day.
We join the oncology community in mourning the passing of Dr. Rachna T. Shroff, a renowned GI cancers expert and a dedicated ASCO volunteer. We are humbled by her dedication and strive to honor her legacy of commitment and altruism.

Breaking news: A 39-year-old woman from Franklin County, Pennsylvania, who had been diagnosed with measles has died, according to the local coroner’s office, marking the sixth such death reported since the state’s outbreak began this year. https://t.co/MW9sJujv52
ASCO’s decision to reduce the waiting period for members to access meeting content from 12 months to just 30 days is a significant step toward accelerating access to scientific knowledge.
Thank you, @ASCO !
What one abstract and one monograph tell us about a 28-year-old scientist's work in Irkutsk.

@bsw5020 Happy birthday to you, @bsw5020! You are a force of nature, & you have done more good than even seems possible in 46 years. I’m happy to be alive at the same moment of history as you. My compliments to your parents. I celebrate you, Brian! 🧁🧁
