That is why the fate of Europe is being decided here – it is being decided in Ukraine, in this war, and in how this war ends – and whether Russia will still have the strength and the desire after this war to threaten the existence of Ukraine and its other neighbors, and the entirety of Europe.

That is why we must end this war with dignity and with guaranteed security. And this is what we will discuss with our partners during the G7 Summit in France, and later at the European Council Summit and at the NATO Summit in Ankara.

Europe is entering a geopolitical expansion phase:

Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans moving toward future EU accession, deeper agreements with the UK and Canada, and a European NATO defence budget that will exceed €800bn by 2030, surpassing Russia and China in nominal terms.

But scale alone is not enough.

Europe must complete the single market in services, finance and energy, reduce the innovation gap with the US, and build a unified foreign policy capable of defending European interests.

Ukrainian Defender "Kit" ("Cat") from the Magura Brigade joined the military at the age of 24. Over four years of service, she has fought in some of the war's hottest sectors, including the defense of Donetsk region, the counteroffensive in Zaporizhzhia region, and the Kursk operation.

Kit's boyfriend died defending Ukraine in Donetsk region while carrying out a combat mission.

Today, Kit is defending the Sumy region.

Das Blatt hat sich gewendet, die Ukraine hat das Momentum auf ihrer Seite. Russland gerät militärisch und ökonomisch unter Druck.
Aber Putin wird den Krieg erst beenden, wenn er dazu gezwungen wird. Statt der Fata Morgana eines Verhandlungsfriedens nachzujagen, muss Europa alles tun, um die Ukraine in eine starke Position zu bringen.
Bei allen Problemen, die wir sonst um die Ohren haben: dieser Krieg ist die entscheidende Bewährungsprobe für Europa.
