Today we’re publishing 100 stories of discrimination from the tech industry. We’re a group of cross-company organizers committed to ending discrimination in tech — discrimination by race, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, immigration status, and more. #TechTruths
"If they are an obvious diversity hire (HBCU + Google
STEP/Microsoft Explore/etc), my standards will be extremely high. I've never passed such a candidate."
"They've stolen spots from asian/white men in the past
therefore I will try to make it even."

Woah! @discotechorg is quite the resource! A treasure trove of horrendous stories that have happened right here in our own community with our own people.
Still, think it couldn't happen? Give these a read and keep watch

New: Pinterest has settled a shareholder lawsuit alleging top executives enabled a culture of discrimination. As part of the settlement agreement, the company is releasing former employees from NDAs and committing $50 million to workplace reforms: https://t.co/fzrOzHUgLx
There are consequences for speaking out. There are consequences for doing the right thing.
But we do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. #AppleToo is about asking Apple to do better, to end systemic discrimination, abuse, and pay inequity.
Do the right thing.
SO SATISFYING. Amazon will soon post to all tech & warehouse workers nationwide:
"WE WILL NOT discharge you for raising work-related concerns..."
"WE WILL pay Maren Costa and Emily Cunningham the wages and other benefits they lost because we fired them."

My only other team member put in his 2 weeks notice last week, and my company just gave me an immediate, unrequested 5k raise and offered me a 10k bonus if I agreed to stay for a year, so guess who is a about to try and leverage trans inclusive insurance for the whole company?
Riding my bike around Google’s campus and somebody called security on me because they didn’t believe I was an employee. Had to get escorted by two security guards to verify my ID badge 🤦🏾♂️
I am a program manager at #AppleMaps. I have been here for five years, and I have seen discrimination, sexism, racism, and retaliation. @Apple has done nothing about any of it. #AppleToo 1/
So, following raising concerns to #Apple about #sexism, #hostileworkenvironment, & #unsafeworkconditions, I'm now on indefinite paid administrative leave per #Apple employee relations, while they investigate my concerns. This seems to include me not using Apple's internal Slack.
Today I had to quit a meeting after being disrespected by the Director of HR.
Imagine being the director and disrespecting an employee two levels below you.
I told her kindly that what she said was disrespectful and I don’t deserve it and left the meeting.
Looking for Women in Tech who HAVE NOT been featured on a podcast before to be featured on @WomenInTechShow podcast. They don’t need a following. Just being themselves is 💯 enough. LMK who comes to mind.
My favorite thing is giving women a platform to shine bright. #womenintech
@rakyll When I interviewed at Snowflake, I asked about DEI after my 4th male interviewer in a row. I kid you not, the interviewer’s response was:
“We are a data-driven company, and the data shows that we don’t need diversity on our leadership team to be successful.”
This was an VP.
Does anyone know the history of technical interviews? Did we have a previous system then someone said “Geez I keep hiring awful engineers. We need to make these interviews way harder” or was it more of someone getting a kick out of making people jump through hoops?
I know ppl like to joke about how high maintenance engineers are, but I’m lowkey into it. It’s dope to see employees recognize their power, demand to be paid well, & use their power to sway their companies to make positive changes. It’s usually only companies that have the power.
Building diverse teams is hard and retaining them is even harder. Allies should know that while you may benefit from a diverse workplace, know that the URM employees may be suffering. Expose their struggles with senior execs. Hold people accountable. Put your neck on the line.
