These concrete spikes are World War II anti-tank defences. They sit on the grounds of Reigate Castle, where a motte-and-bailey fortress was built in the late 11th century.

This tower was built around 1341 by Robert Manners to defend the River Till. In 1513, King James IV of Scotland briefly captured the castle during his invasion of England.

In Grinton, this Iron Age site is a pear-shaped enclosure measuring 108 by 88 meters. Its unique feature is an avenue leading to the entrance, a rare design in northern England.

Locals say Dinton Folly is haunted by John Bigg, a seventeenth-century hermit. He lived in a cave on the property until his death, long before Sir John Vanhatten built the castle in 1769.
