@Shiaohuey_Chow This is excellent work and first of its kind on Coode Island Silt with significant impact on future designs given major developments planned for @fishermans_bend
@IEinav@jdzhao Oh, gosh, we always wanted to go and every time something came up!
It is on our travel list for this September, hopefully this time we will make it! Or maybe you can plan the next ANAGRAM there for us;)!
What makes Geotechnical engineering exciting? While the rest of @UniMelb is at design stage of new FB campus, our students are well into using the site for research on Coode Island Silt and impact of sampling disturbance. Welldone @Shiaohuey_Chow for leading this! @engunimelb
Exciting time for our @engunimelb Capstone project students to kickstart their research on the notorious Coode Island silt with the support of our industry partner, Black Insitu Testing! @DisfaniM
It was great and insightful to have @MatteoCiantia from @dundeeuni visiting our Geotech team @engunimelb. From crushing in sand, discrete element modelling, soil erosion and handmade pasta there was so much to talk and enjoy
To all politicians. In a liberal democracy, You make the grant rules, The independent research agency uses peer review to determine funding. It is completely inappropriate for grants to be removed by politicians, unless the grant rules were not followed.
@vjagodnik During saturation the machine will apply confinement; axial force (to make up for reduction in surface on top caused by loading ram) & back pressure. If you see shearing bands formed and it looks like a compression shearing, start by checking calibration of load cell & pumps!
@dinomirMT I was on the bike, so didnโt feel it! But my 4 year old son was home and given his interest in geology and earth, is super excited about it! He is checking the garden now for any fault lines๐๐
Afghanistan has been a composite failure of policy and vision. Republican and Democrat. The only way to avoid it becoming a moral embarrassment and even more of a strategic blunder is to support the #PanjshirResistance as a bastion of resistance to radical Islamism of every hue.
One day; academics would spend Sunday evenings, reading new academic material (or any text), relaxing and enjoying music or anything other than catching up with paper work and emails before they hit them at the start of week. Now back to credit card reporting #AcademicChatter
We do really get it wrong sometimes! So this government scheme is to switch old light bulbs to LED lights to save us money and to reduce carbon emission I guess. Yet to promote it, the operator is handing out plastic balloons as if we donโt have enough waste soft plastic already!
As a bike rider it frustrates me how safety of many bike riders, kids and families are ignored just because few people may feel a bit inconvenient! It was also shocking to see how a female councillor was interrupted constantly to the point she couldnโt really talk!!!
Itโs time to get the word out about whatโs happening with street safety projects at Darebin council.
Feel free to retweet and share.
Big thanks to @PenEngineer, @matthewjjburke, @yarrabug_radio, @RohanLeppert & everyone involved in highlighting this.

In our recent paper with @TomShireGeo from @UofGEngineering we look at stress-strain behavior of eroded soil sample and use inter-granular contact index in defining post-erosion behavior @engunimelb
Did you know that one of the leading causes of dam failure is internal erosion? Check out this @engunimelb @UofGEngineering study related to suffusion, one of the four main mechanisms of internal erosion
