@MagellanVa @oliviasorbo_ Autism is a social and sensory disorder. That’s why you have such a wide range of people under the umbrella. Intelligence can be average or high as well, which completely changes the presentation. It doesn’t make the autism less real, but it makes the support needs less visible.

@thecavemommy @TealNoodles This is nine times out of 10 because of a comorbidity of intellectual disability. Autism is not a disorder of intelligence, it is social/sensory disorder. The presentation changes for average/high IQ folks but the mechanisms are the same.

Stop assuming you know what is happening in someone’s head to get to the level of functionality that you are judging them by. Autistic people can learn skills. Some nonspeaking folks even learn to speak.
