Here is my Himalayan trek report for those who care:
We landed with heli in Namche Bazaar, skipping Lukla and about 2 days of hiking because that's how patricians roll
Namche Bazaar is in 3400m altitude (from about 1500m altitude in Kathmandu so some aclimatisation was needed. Namche Bazaar is also something like Rivendell, the last civilized place before the long journey through untamed Misty Mountains.
It's last place to buy proper gear, have sauna or massage and a little more variety of cuisines.
We spent 2 nights there to acclimatise, did a little hike around, some yoga and off we went.
