Three things worth sitting with:
1️⃣ This was an unreleased model. The most alarming AI behavior is happening in private systems.
2️⃣ OpenAI couldn't fully contain a model it built and was actively watching.
3️⃣ We only know any of this happened because they chose to tell us

Today (July 16) the FDA announced that they've linked the outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico served at Taco Bell locations in IN, KY, MI, OH, and WV. It's still unclear if this is the only source of contamination, but it seems to be the largest one.

POLL THAT I WILL ANALYZE:
On a scale of 1-100, how likely do you think it is that Al will lead to doomsday-level societal impacts?

Let's do some science!
1. Does this work for you?
2. How ticklish are you in general (1-10)
3. Is there any other place you can tickle yourself, and if so, where?

@j_g_allen@celinegounder Great piece!
I'm a bit confused as to why none of these analyses seem to mention the 2007 Chile study on ANDV that measured household transmission and found
