President John Dramani Mahama says he does not mind being insulted as a leader, but insists Ghanaians must collectively decide how to regulate TikTok and the "New Media."

He also revealed that he is unaware of many of the arrests of social media commentators and has called on stakeholders to come together and determine how to regulate TikTok and the broader new media landscape.

IDENTITY DAY 2026: CELEBRATING IDENTITY, ADVANCING INCLUSION
The celebration of this year’s Identity Day 2026 formed part of the National Identification Authority’s 20th Anniversary activities, highlighting the importance of legal identity in promoting inclusion and ensuring that everyone is recognised.
Ahead of 16th September, we engaged churches and mosques nationwide in identity sensitisation and held a Corporate Lifestyle Coaching Session for staff.

On Identity Day yesterday, we took the message of identity to the public through an ID Day Float, followed by a Special Mass Registration Exercise at the University of Ghana, Legon. The activities reinforced our commitment to expanding access to legal identity and bringing Ghana Card services closer to eligible persons.
The anniversary celebrations continue with an Inter-Agency Games this Saturday, 19th September 2026 at the Legon Training Pitch, bringing institutions together through sports, teamwork and collaboration.

As we reflect on 20 years of service, we celebrate our progress, renew our commitment to the NIA’s mandate and look ahead to a future where no one is left behind.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) joins the global community in commemorating Identity Day 2026 on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, reaffirming the fundamental importance of legal identity for all.

This year’s theme, “My Identity, My Shadow — Never Apart,” highlights the enduring connection between individuals and their legal identity. It reminds us that identity is more than a document or identification number; it is an essential part of who we are and a gateway to accessing vital services, exercising our rights, and participating fully in society.

As Ghana continues to strengthen its national identification system, the NIA remains committed to ensuring that every eligible person can establish and securely use a trusted legal identity.

On this Identity Day, we celebrate the power of identity and renew our commitment to building an inclusive society where every individual is recognised, every identity is protected, and no one is left behind.

Only if roadside food vendors knew how much of a difference it would make in their sales if they took hygiene a bit more seriously. Simple things like gloves, nose masks, hair caps, etc would go a long way and boost sales significantly
