🚨 MOGADISHU MOVES AHEAD WITH NEARLY $90 MILLION IN SOLAR AND BATTERY PROJECTS

Somalia is taking steps to improve Mogadishu’s energy infrastructure through two major solar and battery-storage projects.

Together, the projects are expected to deliver:

110 MW of solar power
320 MWh of battery storage

The initiatives involve companies from:

🇺🇸 United States
🇹🇷 Türkiye
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia
🇨🇳 China
🇳🇬 Nigeria

The contracts have been awarded to two international partnerships:

Jazeera: A U.S.–Turkish–Saudi consortium developing one of the projects
Daynile: A Chinese–Nigerian consortium responsible for the other

If completed as planned, the projects could help Mogadishu reduce its dependence on diesel generators and provide residents with more reliable electricity. They could also improve the stability of the city’s power system, expand clean energy generation, and strengthen Somalia’s wider energy infrastructure.

Deputy PM, @SalahJama officially opened the #Somalia–#China Business Networking Forum in Mogadishu, bringing together government officials, diplomats, business leaders and investors from both countries.

He urged Chinese companies to explore investment opportunities in Somalia, particularly in infrastructure, manufacturing, fisheries, agriculture, energy, transport and logistics, stressing that stronger trade ties should create jobs and boost domestic production.

The former National Security Advisor to President Hassan Sheikh, Hussein Moalim, who also serves as an opposition member of the government he once advised, initiated a political critique against the new Speaker of the Somali Parliament, Hon. Jama.

This event took place shortly after he received an expression of gratitude from his Turkish counterpart.

The Hussein Moalim's message conveyed was: "#Cyprus is a country recognized by the international community and is a member of the #EuropeanUnion .

This issue is a red line for us." Moalim implied that a response undermining our territorial sovereignty could be incited by a seemingly innocuous phone call intended to capture his photograph.

He further remarked that the mistakes and internal challenges faced within the country are now being exposed and exploited internationally, thus emphasising the fragile state of our national unity and sovereignty.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud @HassanSMohamud has received the Letters of Credence of seven new ambassadors at Villa Somalia, representing Algeria, Brazil, India, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria and Pakistan.

The ambassadors were received with full diplomatic honours and a guard of honour from the armed forces. The President heard their plans and the priority each attaches to strengthening cooperation with Somalia across politics, the economy, development, security and social affairs. Among them is Aqsa Nawaz, the first woman Pakistan has sent to Somalia as ambassador.
