Today, Pakistan's anti-terrorism court has sentenced Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻.

The irony is hard to miss.

• The case dates back to October 2024, when they removed road barriers along a route designated for England's cricket team in Islamabad.

• The court acknowledged that the incident involved the ordinary removal of a barrier but ruled that it created a sense of terror.

• The couple pleaded not guilty, calling themselves “prisoners of conscience” targeted for their human rights work.

• Imaan's mother, former minister Shireen Mazari, called it a sham trial, alleging denial of due process and proper legal representation.

• Amnesty International condemned the verdict, accusing Pakistani authorities of weaponising anti-terrorism laws against dissenting voices.

• The couple plan to challenge the verdict in Pakistan's Supreme Court.
