nolan as the male taylor swift is funny
- genius artist who guards the last dying embers of the monoculture
- a popular mainstream hit maker whose work is also critically acclaimed and wins big awards
- ludicrously productive and famously known to take care and pleasure in actually writing their own work
and they're opposites in ways that are kind of gendered, too, in that the thing that makes them special is distinct. taylor swift's best music is memoiristic and about the emotional inner life of non-married women whereas christopher nolan's stuff is almost entirely unromantic, my favorite protagonists of his are dads, the characters don't really talk about their feelings unless they're telling you the theme of the movie (oppenheimer: let's have sex while i foreshadow the trinity test with this shiva quote in spontaneously translated sanskrit), and he excels at macro-level narrative spectacle rather than emotional interpersonal dialogue
Isn't it funny
Presti didn't want to pay a Dort extension and salary dumped him despite being a homegrown piece who played an important role in their title
Not a peep about how OKC backstabs players or that Presti is heartless etc. Instead, praise
The Celtics essentially make a similar decsion for a lot of the same reasons, and look at the discourse 🤣
I genuinely enjoyed arguing with my conservative friends over politics but it’s less fun for me now that I view myself as a legit guardrail to keep them from losing their minds like Elon, haralabob, etc to the psychotic, woke right algorithmic squeeze on social media and Spotify
You can tell when one of these guys is just playing a character. Elon Musk is not. He legitimately hollowed out his brain and believes all the crazy shit he says.
This is very true. The movies had opposite reputations on interstellar’s release. And yet, inception is a terrible movie and interstellar is good, so eventually everyone got it right
It is just a little wild to me that it feels to me INCEPTION’s stock has dipped just as much as INTERSTELLAR’s has risen. I remember that INTERSTELLAR reception on release!
it still cracks me up how many people were like "THAT WAS THE WORST FINALE IN TELEVISION HISTORY, IT WAS THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL yeah sure i'll watch multiple spinoffs"
“Today, the young inject their faces and look old; the old inject their faces and look uncanny; a 20-year-old got famous for hitting himself in the jaw with a hammer to become hotter; teen-agers ask strangers on the internet if a facelift is their only hope,” Jia Tolentino (@jiatortellini) writes. “The internet casually scrambles basic ideas of personhood, reframing people as commodities and stripping us for parts. But only recently has this process been encoded so specifically onto the face, traditionally thought of as a portal to our humanity. The face is separating from the person, and the person is separating from the soul, and this is happening in front of us, on our phones, in the most banal fashion, every day.” Read her new essay about our plastic-surgery nightmare: https://t.co/WePolte0V4
In the year of our lord 2026 every day you hear someone say how they’re neurodivergent and then they explain it as something that almost literally every other person on earth also experiences.
Someone please explain the neurodivergent experience of feeling like I was mentally older than my peers as a child and now feel mentally younger now as an adult….
Up until 2024 everyone knew Elon talked out of ass 90% of the time (read the issacson book) and then in 2024 people decided everything he said was completely sane and completely true
See, THIS is my favorite ODYSSEY backlash because it’s not *remotely* true, it’s just idiocy regurgitated by people who think Elon Musk knows what he’s talking g about.
It's crazy that The Decision was 16 years ago and LeBron is still the predominant free agent headline in the sport. To put it in perspective, 16 years ago one of the biggest other free agents available was Carlos Boozer, and now his *son* is in the league.
People thinking every character should be absolutely perfect and the smartest human alive or else it’s bad writing is….really frustrating. There’s a huge chasm between characters making bad decisions and an idiot plot.
I can’t believe Star City is only 8 episodes. Nobody knows who any of these actors are they could have easily just made it 15 eps. If there’s no season 2 I will cancel all Apple products and throw my iPhone off a bridge.
Emmys have always been mostly a dumpster fire but after all the years of nominating some pretty wild SNL people for awards, ignoring Ashley Padilla and Jeremy culhane is pretty gross
