A woman was telling me recently how smart she thought I was for serving food immediately after my church wedding.

Then she compared it to a mutual friend’s wedding from a year & a half ago… because she never got jollof rice. 😭😭

The way she narrated the story, you could tell she was still pained! 😂

When I was still working in the bank, one of my supervisors told me he liked the way I carried myself and wanted to introduce me to one of his friends living in Australia.

At first, I wasn’t interested because I didn’t want a long-distance relationship, but eventually I agreed. He gave his friend my contact and we started talking.

This guy could laugh for Africa 😭
If I sneezed, he would laugh.
If I stood up to pick something, he would laugh.
And not normal laugh o… loud speaker kind of laugh. Somebody would think I connected my calls to a speakers. I told him it made me uncomfortable and he said, “I’m just a jolly good fellow.”

Fast forward to when he wanted to visit Nigeria, he asked me to help him look for an apartment. Because of work and my side hustle, I couldn’t go around house hunting myself, so I asked someone to help me check places for him.

When he arrived, I sent the person to take him to the apartment because I had never even seen it myself. Meanwhile, his sisters had already started furnishing the place for him. He chose the apartment on video call.

We were trying to arrange our first meeting, but this man kept choosing weekdays 😭 I wanted weekend so I could relax properly. Eventually, we agreed on a work day. I rushed all my tasks at work with the help of my supervisor and left early.

I usually went home with one of my colleagues, so she followed me. We sat at Cold Stone close to my office and also close to his sister’s place where he was staying temporarily.

When he said he was close, my friend moved to another table to give us space.

Tell me why I stood up to hug this man and almost disappeared 😭
This guy was HUGE.
Like full basketball player build. His eyes were hazel.
Everything about him was big. I was looking like sponge beside him. Till today I still wonder how I didn’t notice through video calls.

When he noticed my friend had moved away, he insisted she join us. I said no, but he kept insisting.

Then he asked what we wanted.
My friend said, “Smallest cup ice cream.”
I said, “Nothing, I’m fine.”

The next thing this man shouted with his microphone voice:
“Dey there dey form!, who you Dey form for?” 😭😭😭

Everybody in Cold Stone turned to look at us. I wanted the floor to open so I can hide inside.

He then stood up and went to buy ice cream with my friend. Both of them came back with ONE CUP of ice cream.

Before I could even process what was happening, this man dug his spoon (which I didn’t know where it came from) into my friend’s ice cream and was eating it with her😭😂 it’s was my first time seeing something like that😭

But that was not the worst thing that has happened to me on a date with him because he did more.

Eleven years ago, Elise Stefanik ran as a moderate and became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at the time.

Glowing media attention followed. Her future was an ongoing discussion among politicos. Some openly wondered if she might be president someday.

Two years later, she aligned herself with Trump and pledged her unfailing loyalty.

Over the next decade, across the board, time after time, she abandoned her earlier political positions to get more in line with Trump. She supported him through two impeachments and the fallout over the Jan. 6th attack.

It'll all be worth it, right? Surely, this ironclad loyalty will accelerate her up the ladder.

I mean, the political exchange rate on a soul has to be pretty good. Has to be, right?

Trump returns to power and nominates her for U.N. ambassador. A few months later, he withdraws her nomination instead of fighting for her, claiming he needs her in Congress due to the slim majority.

So, she instead decides to run for Governor of New York, an uphill battle, to be sure, but she'll have the MAGA base behind her -- so, it's a worth a shot, right?

Nope. She's challenged by Bruce Blakeman, a Nassau county executive few outside of New York have ever heard and who has limited name recognition *in* New York and who finished third in a GOP primary for the Senate back in 2010.

Trump could have stomped out that bid and made it clear Stefanik was his pick. He declined to throw his weight behind her.

There were other clues, like inviting Zohran Mamdani to the Oval Office and not-so-subtly throwing Stefanik under the bus when asked about her vicious attacks on Mr. Mamdani.

Trump defended the Mayor-elect and made Stefanik look petty and unhinged by comparison, all while Mr. Mamdani stood behind him beaming.

This signals to New York Republicans that they're free to get behind Blakeman, and they do. Stefanik is left twisting in the wind and realizes her chances of winning are slim.

Ten days after Blakeman's campaign launch, Stefanik announced today she's dropping her own bid and will not seek reelection to Congress.

Nearly a decade of abandoning all her principles in service to Trump, and she's been left empty-handed.
