Most Western media outlets are widely reporting Ben Gvir’s statement suggesting the killing of '30 to 40' people in Gaza nightly. Of course, they feel noble, fair, and objective when doing so. Yet beyond mere rhetoric, that is precisely what Israel has been doing for decades and, more continuously, since October 2023. The same media outlets that enabled this genocide by blindly and unequivocally supporting the Israeli narrative now seem to worry far more about words than actions. Ironically, words have always preceded the first bullet. And when it comes to Israel, no more words are needed to realize that Zionism has steadily evolved in terms of extreme hatred and exterminationist rhetoric, but has grown even more monstrous in practice when emboldened with impunity and crucial Western military and financial backing. Ben Gvir is simply the vocal face of Israel's brutality. Do the math and you will find out that Israel has killed far more than 30 to 40 Palestinians in Gaza. And not only nightly.

في مقدمة كتاب «طريق تل الزعتر» الصادر عام 1977، كتب محمود درويش نصاً لا يستعيد المجز*رة بوصفها رقماً في سجل الحر*ب، بل يصارع سؤالاً أكثر قسوة: كيف يمكن للكتابة أن تقترب من موت آلاف البشر من دون ��ن تحوّلهم إلى رقم أو استعارة أو مادة للبطولة؟

«ثلاثة آلاف ق.تيل ليسوا رقماً»، يكتب درويش، رافضاً أن يختصر التاريخ الأفراد في حصيلة واحدة، ومشككاً حتى في قدرة الأدب نفسه على تمثيل ما جرى: «إن بطولتهم شيء، والكلام عن هذه البطولة شيء آخر».

بعد خمسين عاماً على مجز*رة تلّ الزعتر، نعود إلى هذا النص، وإلى الصور التي حملها كتاب «طريق تل الزعتر»، لا لاستعادة المأساة وحدها، بل لاستعادة السؤال الذي تركه درويش مفتوحاً: مَن يملك حق رواية الكارثة، وكيف نحمي ذاكرة الضحايا من النسيان ومن استهلاكها في الكلام؟
