@BoiseCalvin@futurecoug I get it. Not questioning that. But you said it’s different for Rutgers and implied that, while local population applies to them, it doesn’t apply to UNLV. Why? I’m not aware of the industry moving away from local population as the biggest component of the media contract value.
@BoiseCalvin@futurecoug Right, but your assertion also comes with an inference that I’m trying to understand. You said Rutgers was different. Why? Are you saying the framework that Rutgers capitalized on (large market rather than actual viewership) is no longer the standard model?
@jasonkredline Agree with most of what you’ said. Except I don’t think there’s strength in numbers. The G6 has the numbers now, but has no influence or power. I think there’s strength in assimilation. As painful as it is, we have to do what the P4 do. Big budgets. Nice stadiums. Invest. Win.
Need to cut this down. P4 aren’t going to be interested in integration this many. Need to raise the $ threshold for FBS to create a more exclusive environment. Then use $ threshold to protect future overcrowding from happening again. Set it at $35M. Then see who wants to play,
I have a feeling a great reset is coming to college sports, particularly at the G6 level.
With the introduction of revenue sharing, we're beginning to see which programs are serious about investing in football and which ones simply cannot keep up financially.
The average football budget among the top 25 G6 programs is approximately $20.7 million. While that isn't necessarily a hard cutoff, I think it gives us an idea of what the financial expectations could look like moving forward.
My prediction is that programs unable or unwilling to keep pace will eventually face a difficult decision: move down to the FCS level voluntarily or risk being left without a conference home as realignment continues.
I genuinely believe there's a scenario where conferences like the MAC and CUSA cease to exist because too many of their members can no longer afford to compete at the FBS level.
We're approaching a point where simply wanting to play FBS football won't be enough. Schools will have to prove they can financially support it.
And I think that reality is going to reshape college football dramatically over the next decade.
These are the teams that I believe are safe:

@CFBStop24 I don’t like the stand alone Saturday. Love the game but move it up. Would love to find a way for the 24 team playoff to conclude on new years day. Might require moving the season up a week or eliminating the bye week.
@JCStatsBoi Where are you seeing one maximum? I’m seeing one minimum. If multiple G6 are in the top 24, theoretically, the higher rated would get the AQ spot. The lower rated would get in at large. Where are you seeing that G6 is throttled to a single spot no matter how many are ranked?
@pensign@RaskullKing_24 Yep. Once you’re in, you’re in. No take backs. Gotta be smart when adding. There will always be a team at the bottom of the conference, but the stronger they are in non conference really does help with conference strength metrics, even if they go 0-9 in conference.
@RaskullKing_24@pensign In the conference play, yes. Someone is last place. But if that team goes 4-0 in non con, you have a strong conference. See the SEC. Vandy is lowest rated. But they went 3-0 in non con play. That’s different than Charlotte that went 0-3. Charlotte is dead weight. Vandy isn’t.
@Safari_Kris@forsportsonly Indeed. You feel my joy and pain. Would’ve loved to have been a part of a good western conference, and feel we could’ve been meaningful contributors. We’ll have to do get best with what we have now. Still have hope that Boise, OSU, WSU, and SDSU can fill out the Big 12.
@Safari_Kris@forsportsonly I know it’s more complex than WSU beating their chest to keep us out. I get that. But it’s the underlying snobbery that led to the conferences demise. And subsequently, the geographical ridiculousness they’re now living in makes me smile. Do feel for and like WSU/OSU though.
@Rjc1810@Richard95855983@richsportsbiz@BattleCattleFan Shoot. I did say that in there. Bahaha. As a part of a broader medium term plan though. The long term vision wouldn’t be having those 4 on an island. It’s to merge with ACC remnants and have 10 teams east west divisions.
Don’t ever use my own words against me again. 🤣
