Last night, the promoter brought his personal copy of Fela Kuti "Expensive Shit" to the DJ booth and gave it to Rich Medina mid set. He put it on, and went and took a bathroom and smoke break.
That's how it's done, folks.
Chicago - this Saturday - Easy Does It. I'm DJing with @IAMSLOTA from 10-close. Not near enough time to get off the plethora of jams we would like to, but it's what we got so come settle with us!
Chicago! Come skate with us at Fleetwood on Thursday - it's gonna be a full on groove (code "bouncecastle" for a nice lil discount 😉) https://t.co/WZLvhQx8jb
civilians love to complain about DJs… but lemme s/o the discerning civilians: those who dont complain bc they actually know where to go, what DJs to follow, what venue to support, & they can curate their nights out instead of being at the mercy of randomness. We appreciate yall
Some common stuff included openers running through the big or popular records before the headliners, headliners not listening to prior sets to see what was already played, stuff like that.
@CoryTownes As an opener I'm not trying to play any joints I think a DJ would play after me, & knowingly playing something in their repertoire is aggressive. But as a headliner I don't care if the DJ before plays current bangers, I'm avoiding the easy common shit as much as possible anyway.
