@atrimm3 Couldn't agree more. There are so many jobs that are over looked, yet if they weren't there we would certainly notice. We all play a part in our economy and society, no one should be looked down upon because of their job title or salary. #gs1000w2081
I have personally noticed a shift in the amount of fathers who choose to take time off work to be with their new borns. I believe this is great for not only supporting the mother, but establishing vital bonds with their child. #gs1000w2081
#gs1000w2081 There has been a long history of men going to work while women stay at home to take care of the house and children. In recent years I have seen a positive shift in the right direction for equal opportunity. Sharing responsibility is vital.
@atrimm3 Great post! I think that many of us men owe the influential women in our lives for the love and support that made us who are today. This day is important to reflect not only on those in our lives but the women who have made great contributions throughout history. #gs1000w2081
@Maggieee_a I totally agree, Margaret! Those with lower income levels often struggle to buy fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, meat, or other items. You could fill an entire grocery cart with items that are "unhealthy" for the same price it costs for a couple healthy meals. #gs1000w2081
@joyounggrenfell @eerf12munca1 As difficult as it is, we have to try and look beyond our own little circles and think in a broader sense. Being mindful of others and their unique perspectives and lenses through which they see the world could go a long way. #GS1000W2081
@HilaryHennesse4 @atrimm3 Great point, Hilary. To add, self care practices look different for everyone. Reading a book, taking a second away from studying to watch a funny video, going for a walk, among a host of other options. We do owe our own bodies and minds a chance to feel great. #gs1000w2081
#gs1000w2081 Unfortunately, income level is largely related to health outcomes. Those who struggle financially are often subject to poorer living conditions, have less access to high quality foods, have on average poor mental health problems among many other factors.
@HilaryHennesse4 Agreed, Hilary. A great example was the sad story in St. John's news the other day about the student who passed away. Even news outlets reported this horribly wrong and inaccurately.

It's hard to imagine that the last residential school only closed down in 1996. The aboriginal perspective on Canada's celebration of 150 years was also particularly interesting and new to me. We cannot forget past mistakes and wrong doing.
#gs1000w2081
@SynyardChad Great point, Chad. Why would we or should we all want to look the same? Embracing and celebrating our unique features and accepting who we are would go a long way. #gs1000w2081
Obesity is a dangerous problem in society today BUT "the solution isn't to make our girls hate themselves and starve themselves" - Jean Kilbourne. We should be promoting healthy habits in a way that provides compassion and does not cause even bigger problems #gs1000w81
We often aspire to look like the models we see on television, movies, in print, and various other forms of mainstream media. It's important to realize that more often than not these "perfect" individuals are often doctored by immense editing to fit this standard. #gs1000w81
@cassieehannahh I agree, Cassie. It was interesting in how she felt like she had a slight advantage that she didn't have to worry about makeup and beauty products as much as other people as she wouldn't fit the beauty "standard" anyway. I thought it was rather empowering! #gs1000w2081
Maysoon Zayid faces her disability head on. In fact, she uses herself as an example to teach others with disabilities that no matter the challenge, they "can can". Her humor was uplifting and she was certainly a treat to learn from. #gs1000w2081
@annav_edwards This documentary certainly opened my eyes to the pressures some men feel to conform to what is expected of them. Especially in sport where "masculine" qualities are admired while "feminine" characteristics are looked down upon #GS1000W2081
Two-spirited individuals embrace they have both masculine and feminine energy within... It can often be seen as an honor to be born two-spirited in aboriginal society #gs1000w2081
@joyounggrenfell I agree! Educating children will not only allow them to be more comfortable with themselves but instill values of treating everyone like human beings regardless of individual differences. #gs1000w2081
It's crazy that trans-phobia is alive and well... Not only does it alienate members of society but can have large implications on important aspects of life such as securing employment. Inclusion is the answer. #gs1000w2081
@blakemi49185204 @eerf12munca1 2/2 I do believe in equal right to participate in sport but I think we need to find a better compromise for everyone involved. Many organizations have come forward to ban this in sport, and many have suggested creating new divisions to level the playing field. #gs1000w2081
