@JonathanComins No disrespect taken. The "tool" does do what it´s supposed to do in that "cases" have lower scores than controls and those that improve their condition also improve their score. Seems better than nothing. What tool would you recommend instead?
The VISA-A questionnaire has seen a bunch of valid criticisms lately. But until someone makes a better one, at least the VISA-A does what it needs to do. https://t.co/XnJlD9HfjE
@jensjakobsendk It is valid in the sense that it will measure what it's supposed to measure (not perfectly). Would you rather be a person that scores 40 on the VISA-A, or a person that scores 99? For me, the answer is 99.
@JonathanComins Use the best tool available. Simple as that. Alternative is creating a better questionnaire. I'll leave that to those with that expertise. Until then, I'll just settle for something that is at least useful.
Of all the images I've created, I think this one is by far my favorite :) full text: https://t.co/Xu9ipyVYmj thanks @kgSilbernagel and @ccouppe for all the work in getting this one out
@DanNotOsteopath@KThorborg@kgSilbernagel@ccouppe Oh dear. A part of me (about 12.5%) wishes you never mentioned that missing s. Can´t unsee it now :(
As for load tolerance, that definitely came as a surprise! What I expected was that load tolerance would be more of a symptom than it´s own thing. There is some prior support tho
Hey #biomechanics#research twitter! The University of Iceland is looking for a #postdoc to work on #ACL related biomechanics using mocap data collected from youth and adolescents - please apply! https://t.co/yikJuSUYn2 #postdocjob
@tomgoom Very interesting observation. I'd add to that; most studies stop at 12 weeks, but perhaps tendon with more pathological changes (structurally affected subgroup) simply need more time and ~100% of people have potential to recover with time
@AdamMeakins 2/2 but time will tell if different presentations need different treatments. After all, tendons are tendons. But our patients deserve that we find out if tailored interventions are helpful.
@AdamMeakins 1/2 At the risk of exposing my bias (I'm in the same lab), the clinical intuition that these groups exist and may be similar across pathologies doesn't make the paper less important. We should not be content with 'knowing from experience' when we can test our theories.
@chadcookpt@AdamMeakins Is there an argument being made against #3 in your opinion piece, and if so can you summarize it for me? Feel free to use big words, I can look them up in a dictionary.
@chadcookpt@PhysioMeScience@DerekGriffin86@AdamMeakins The weight of the evidence does not rest heavily on the side of short term benefits predicting long-term effects. It appears studies can be cherry picked both ways which likely means there is no or at best a small effect.
@chadcookpt@PhysioMeScience@DerekGriffin86@AdamMeakins You linked a retrospective observational study, with findings opposite to this systematic review. Surely, you don't think the observational study trumps the systematic review? https://t.co/jbxwRrRSg7
