For the last few weeks I’ve been building something for myself. A solution to a small daily annoyance.
I’ve tried a lot of task and reminder apps over the years but somehow always end up back on the built-in ones. They’re simple and focused.
With Apple Reminders, there was one bit of friction that kept bothering me. Capturing a reminder on my Mac meant switching apps, clicking around, and losing whatever I was in the middle of.
So I started building my own. I call it Perch. It lives in the menu bar, perching above everything else and always available.
One hotkey opens it. Then you just type the reminder the way you’d say it. Dates, lists, recurrence and priorities are picked up as you type. No mouse required.
Give it a try. I’m curious what you think.

When building a tool for yourself, you get to obsess over all the little things that make a difference.
For example, most reminder apps just say "Sat 22 Aug". Perch lets you choose: a date, or simply "in 2 days".
One makes you do the maths. The other gives you perspective.
Hey @MarcPerel, thanks for adding Perch to https://t.co/TYvbQoSM88 🙏 Any chance the page could get a few screenshots and a few feature bullets too? Happy to provide!
@brettmcm “Audience of one” is why I built my own menu bar layer over Apple Reminders. Shipping it was almost an afterthought, but seeing it become someone else’s perspective is what excites me about building it. Nicely executed, by the way.
@daveyheuser Structure wasn't really my point. Some of the copy is lifted from the Perch page, word for word. Use your own words. You've got a story Perch hasn't.
@martinrariga Yours has definitely made it into the lineup. But I also enjoy using Garçon 🤵 by @morganknutson.
And yes! I made Perch a few weeks back, menu bar companion for Apple Reminders. First macOS app I’ve shipped, still slightly terrified 😄
@daveyheuser Happy to share. I’ve been testing the same approach and it seems to work. The Me card gives you Home and Work though it hands you an address rather than coordinates, so there’s a bit of work in between.
And I’m nicking your hint line, so we’re even. 😄
