Indian Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) are protesting in Delhi over concerns surrounding the FMGE examination. Doctors speaking from the protest say that an exceptionally high number of candidates were unsuccessful in the July examination and allege that unfairness in the examination process has jeopardised the careers of future doctors. They are demanding compensation marks and intervention from the National Board of Examinations and the government.

There is something profoundly disturbing about seeing doctors on the streets when they should be in libraries, hospitals and workplaces—learning, treating and preparing to serve society.

These are not people asking for a shortcut.

They are future doctors asking for fairness.

If an examination has produced such an extraordinary level of failure that students are compelled to question its fairness, the first response of any responsible system should not be silence.

It should be transparency.

Examine the paper.

Examine the process.

Listen to the candidates.

Publish the facts.

And if the students have been wronged, correct the wrong.

Because an examination is supposed to measure competence—not become an instrument that determines the fate of an entire generation through an opaque process.

The irony is painful.

India says it needs more doctors.

India speaks constantly about strengthening healthcare.

And yet young medical graduates are standing in protest, asking the state to simply ensure that the rules of their professional future are fair.

A country that needs doctors cannot afford to treat aspiring doctors as disposable numbers.

And when young people say, “We should be working, not protesting,” perhaps the government should stop and listen.

A protest by doctors is not merely a demand for marks.
It is a demand that the system respect the people it expects to serve the people.

Solidarity with the protesting FMGs and their demand for a fair, transparent and accountable examination process.

When doctors are forced to sit on a hunger strike demanding transparency, accountability and justice, this is no longer merely an issue concerning a professional examination. It becomes a question about how institutions treat the aspirations and futures of an entire generation of medical professionals.

An SFI delegation visited the protesting FMG doctors in Delhi and extended solidarity with their struggle. The protesters are demanding accountability and transparency concerning the FMGE June 2026 process, and are calling for a proper investigation into alleged irregularities and what they describe as gross injustice.

The voice coming from the protest site is simple but powerful:

Where there is accountability, there must be transparency.
Where there are allegations of irregularity, there must be investigation.
And where injustice has occurred, there must be redress.

A system cannot demand discipline and professionalism from doctors while refusing to demonstrate the same standards of fairness and accountability in its own processes.

These young medical professionals are not asking for privilege. They are asking for clarity, due process and justice.

And solidarity matters.

When students, doctors, workers and citizens stand beside one another against institutional opacity and injustice, they remind those in power of a fundamental democratic truth:

Institutions exist to serve people—not to silence their questions.

Stand with the FMG doctors demanding transparency, accountability and justice.
