“I Will Always Love You” is Whitney Houston’s 1992 recording for the soundtrack of The Bodyguard. Originally written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973 as a heartfelt farewell to her mentor Porter Wagoner, Houston transformed the gentle country ballad into one of the biggest hits in music history. The sweeping power ballad spent a then-record 14 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the charts in more than 20 countries and won the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Its breathtaking vocal performance helped make The Bodyguard the best-selling soundtrack album of all time, while the single became one of the best-selling singles by a female artist in history.

Whitney originally intended to record Jimmy Ruffin’s "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" for the film's climax, but switched to Parton's song after co-star Kevin Costner suggested it, having been inspired by Linda Ronstadt's 1975 cover. Dolly Parton later recalled that when she first heard Whitney's version on the car radio, she was so overwhelmed by the vocal performance that she had to pull over. Decades later it remains Whitney Houston's signature song and one of the most celebrated vocal performances ever recorded.
