@mirtle@TheAthleticNHL Currently coaching at the grassroots level (U9). A few things I whould change immediately:
1. Equipment subsidy - Get the total spend on equipment equal to skaters
2. Mandatory Goalie Training from Clubs
3. Keep smaller nets for U9/U10
Looking forward to running this camp again this summer. Limited space still available. 2011-2014 Birth Years

Smaller Sided teams with smaller pitch & Nets for the Barcelona U13s. Yet, in Canada we still want to ram full ice, heavy puck, big nets down 6 and 7 year old kids….make it make sense…
U13 Barcelona.
Look at the fundamentals:
- passing speed and choice
- first touch
- dribbling comfort
- movement off the ball
No tricks or fancy stuff needed!

@JoelCressman@chasmahoney IMO coaches have to take the approach they coaching kids and parents, especially from ages 5-14. Act and treat them like you are coaching them as well, not in a condescending way but in a productive and transparent way
@jimshapiro Jim, I coach hockey the season is 8 months, this likely couldn’t work for us.
But, I do something similar. I coach 16-17 yr old boys, and if a parent would like to talk, their son has to be present. I’ve found this diffuses most of the issues for us.
@Boycer22@Bonsie1951@HockeyCanada Agreed here Tim…if I were running a club…
Short Term I’d make goalie registration free…long term…
1. Subsidize Equipment Costs to that of a player cost
2. Subsidize Goalie Coach Training from the beginning
3. Create incentives for clubs to hire goalie coaches
@SCIENCE339@JeffLoVecchio@usahockey I too was once against Spring tryouts. But if you truly are a supporter of putting the hockey bag away all summer, what will best accomplish that? Knowing you are on a team or not knowing you are on a team and have tryouts in early September?
@DannyShireyPGH The idea is to put a face off guy out there not waste your top guys on the first shift playing defense. The problem was they didn’t change once they got the puck back, then Matthews gets out there fresh against the Guys who started.
