PRESS RELEASE: "For #DisabilityAwarenessMonth, UC San Diego Must Do More"
"[As] an affiliated network of disabled & abled students, workers & community stakeholders..[we] have profound concerns about the university’s [ability to honor those w/ disabilities]" #AcademicAbleism
Disability and Universal Design (A Thread): Classes are starting up again, whether you're virtual or face to face, accessibility still matters. I know it feels like a scramble to adjust to whatever your uni decided, but accessibility and equity must be goals of our classes
@autistichoya I'm not 100% against non-disabled people submitting if they acknowledge their relative privilege and show they are not simply exploiting disa led people for research.
NYT article on Brad Lomax, the Black Panther w #MultipleSclerosis who fought for the liberation of Black and disabled people in the U.S. He died in 1984 before passage of the ADA & most current MS treatments. #DisabilityJustice#ADA30#ForgottenHistory

If you have some influence in your institution, advocate for a recognition of PTSD as a chronic condition & the implementation of policies making academic life safer for survivors. Incl. a visible ethics & gender equality commitee for instance.

@UCSanDiego and all @UofCalifornia campuses remain invested in perpetuating discriminatory--and ILLEGAL--ableist practices in their money hungry decision to abruptly shift classes online #AcademicAbleism
The strikes at UC are not led by union officials, state and local politicians, student government reps, aspiring managers, or by those who employ the jargon of radicalism so as to further the agenda of the administration. The strikes are led by rank and file graduate workers.
Angry that @UofCalifornia is firing students who dared to asked them for a living wage? Join the rally 12pm tomorrow, March 2nd, at the silent tree in support of @payusmoreucsc, @ucsb4cola, and #cola4all

UCSD Faculty4COLA wrote a letter in support of us! We love faculty who take the time to understand our struggle and support us! #spreadthestrike#cola4all#faculty4cola
To President Napolitano, Chancellor Khosla, and Chancellor Larive: the students and workers of UCSD stand with Santa Cruz. We will not stop until we get the COLA we deserve. If you retaliate, we escalate.

I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2017. I’ll never forget walking across that stage with my son. I was SO excited to continue my education at UCSC. Sadly, my son and I have suffered so much for this PhD, so I spoke up. I told the UC we’re not surviving. They fired me. #cola4all
My chancellor @pkkhosla and the CFO Ouillet together make over $1M. Their annual salary increases alone each eclipse the salary of 1+ UCSD graduate student. On some planet this makes sense. Thank you, @payusmoreucsc, for campaigning against this planet being our campuses.
The UCSD Chancellor's office emailed the school stating that @UCSanDiego has a "Commitment to Student-Centered Mental Health Resources" and provides a "holistic continuum of care."
This continues to be untrue.
#DisabilityJustice#InvisibleDisability
This 2017 @_UCSA report/testimonies by undergraduate students with disabilities reiterates @UCSanDiego continued lack of addressing mental health discrimination and comprehensive access to resources. How is this a "commitment to student's mental health?"
