Kenya has changed how banks pay licence fees for the first time in 32 years.

Before, banks paid fixed fees of up to Sh400,000 for a licence plus charges for each branch.

Now, they will pay 0.13% of their annual income in 2026, 0.14% in 2027, and 0.15% from 2028.

The new rules include:

— A 10-year nationwide licence
