Congratulations to Belize who becomes the 25th member of the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance, and our first Caribbean member 👏👏👏
Belize is the first small island developing state with production to implement an offshore licensing ban 🌎

As we head into the final stretch of #IMO#MEPC80 meetings, I want to address some #disinformation we’re seeing about two goals we have this week: a) targets for decarbonisation, and b) the levy.
A thread:

For more on these gaps in ambition & implementation – and what the world needs to do to close them – take a look at the analysis in our World Energy Outlook 2022:
Key findings: https://t.co/afCL5Uf0wv
Our Net Zero Roadmap: https://t.co/cvYU4au4Ic
More to come later this year!
This leaves an implementation gap of around 5 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2030 between current policies & NDCs on one hand, and net zero pledges on the other
And on top of that there is an 8.5 billion-tonne ambition gap in 2030 between net zero pledges & our 1.5 C pathway
Under current policy settings & Nationally Determined Contributions, global warming is set to reach 2.5 C, well above the Paris goals
If countries adopt new policies & NDCs in line with their net zero pledges, warming may be limited to 1.7 C – better, but still going above 1.5 C
"We know that oil & gas are responsible for climate change! So the world must put a stop to the usage of fossil fuels. It is about justice.” Brilliant words from👩🎓 Catalia Vusi & Joyline Alfred from Pele Island in Vanuatu. 🇩🇰 dedicated to fight climate change #BOGA@danjoergensen
The #ClimateFinance Delivery Plan (2021) projected that the $100 Bn p.a. goal would be achieved in 2023. Based on the assumptions underlying that projection, as well as the contributors´ positive updates from yesterday, the contributors fully expect to meet the goal this year.
As a first step - Yesterday, @s_guilbeault & I co-convened a group of contributors to consider the $100 billion collective mobilization goal, in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation.
It was an honour to partner with the Pacific Islands Forum @ForumSEC and the Government of Fiji 🇫🇯 on Wednesday’s dialogue
Forum members and BOGA co-chair Denmark 🇩🇰 discussed the urgent need for a #JustTransition away from oil and gas, globally and in the Pacific

Foreign Minister Napat hands over Vanuatu's Declaration to joining the Beyond Oil & Gas Alliance (BOGA) to the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Hon. Dan Jørgensen. BOGA is co-chaired by Denmark.
Right now Denmark is hosting the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial meeting together with the current and incoming COP-presidencies of Egypt and the UAE.
CCM will gather climate leaders and ministers from around the world to push for climate action and an ambitious #COP28.
#dkpol
The first high-level meeting since #COP27 starts today. 🌍
Ministers and envoys meet at the #CopenhagenClimateMinisterial to mobilize implementation on the ground and operationalize the milestones from Sharm el-Sheikh.
Today’s @IPCC_CH report shows that we need a managed phase out of oil and gas, now
#BOGA members are leading the way by:
🛑 Halting new licensing rounds
📉 Setting Paris Aligned end dates for existing production
🌍 Working to establish a just, global phase out
We welcome the ‘Port Vila Call for a Just Transition to a Fossil Fuel Free Pacific’ 👏👏👏
The Call urges countries, including major oil and gas producers, to join #BOGA
Looking forward to working with you 🇻🇺🇹🇻🇹🇴🇫🇯🇳🇺🇸🇧

🇩🇰FM @larsloekke:
“Important meeting with #UN Secretary General @antonioguterres. We agree there is no alternative to defending the rule-based international order. We will continue to defend #UNCharter like we have this past year during Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.”
No more excuses.
No more greenwashing.
No more bottomless greed of the fossil fuel industry and its enablers.
2023 must be a year of game-changing #ClimateAction.
Last year China invested $546 billion in clean energy.
The EU invested $180 billion.
The US invested $141 billion.
In total, countries around the world invested about a trillion dollars in clean energy in 2022.
