@Matthew0390@Wesleecraft@HwsEleutheroi Craig provided plenty of evidence in the debate that cultic imagery in the ancient world was not for decoration. It's not like nobody knows, this is publicly available information
I'm seeing goalposts shifting in real time.
"There wasn't Holy imagery pre-Nicea"
*Shows evidence there was*
"OK well they weren't venerated"
*Shows evidence they were*
"OK well it's not a Salvation issue"
*walk them through why refusing veneration presupposes heretical ideas*
@NiceanRick@PhotiosOfGA Considering the early church fathers agree with my interpretation and not yours, how do you know you're not importing modern Protestant concepts into an ancient text?
@NiceanRick@PhotiosOfGA The earliest Bible teachers and preachers saw this as appealing to the apostolic deposit of faith handed down. Were they all mistaken?
@NiceanRick@PhotiosOfGA "therefore, x thing is obligatory and demanded by scripture” There is more than the just the Scriptures that are binding on you, and the Bible teaches this. 2 Thessalonians 2:15
@NiceanRick@PhotiosOfGA It didn't, as I explained, Justin Martyr described liturgical worship that fits the pattern almost exactly. It was done this way from the very beginning in the Roman Catacombs.
@NiceanRick@PhotiosOfGA Even if you reject the dating of that liturgy, the Didache and Justin Martyr describe structured liturgical worship in the exact same way. This is a known historical artifact you're denying the existence of. That "group" is the Christian Church founded by the Apostles.
@NiceanRick@PhotiosOfGA https://t.co/ECf2RjLhTw this is the oldest known liturgy, circa 200 AD. That is EARLY early during the height of persecution before Nicea. Did they make this up because it sounds nice? Or was the form and pattern passed down through Holy Tradition?
