True Story:

On the afternoon of September 9, 2020, in the flat expanse of Divide County, North Dakota, a farmer named Lane Unhjem was racing the autumn frost. In the northern plains, the harvest window for wheat and durum is razor-thin; a single heavy rain or an early prairie freeze can wipe out an entire year of labor and investment in a matter of hours.

While working his fields outside the small town of Crosby, disaster struck: Lane’s combine suddenly caught fire. In the frantic struggle to battle the blaze and save his equipment, the physical shock triggered a massive heart attack. Lane collapsed in the dirt beside his burning machine. First responders managed to stabilize him before he was airlifted more than one hundred miles south to an intensive care unit in Minot, hovering on the brink of death.

His wife and children rushed to the hospital, living minute by minute in an ICU waiting room, praying for his heart to keep beating. Back home, roughly one thousand acres of golden durum wheat and canola remained standing in the fields. For an independent family farm, leaving a thousand unharvested acres to rot under impending weather means financial ruin.

Word traveled across the country roads that evening. Don Anderson, a longtime neighbor, picked up his phone. He did not organize a committee or wait for an outside relief agency; he simply called a few fellow farmers across the county.

The message was brief: Lane is in Minot fighting for his life, and his crop is still in the dirt.

Harvest is the most stressful, high-stakes week of the entire year for every single grower in North Dakota. Every minute spent away from your own fields is a gamble against the weather. Yet the following morning, just after dawn, the gravel roads leading to the Unhjem homestead began to rumble.

Eleven massive combine harvesters crested the horizon in a single line, accompanied by six heavy grain carts and fifteen 18-wheel semi-trucks. Around sixty neighboring farmers had shut down their own operations, fueled their own rigs out of their own pockets, and driven miles across the prairie to take Lane’s place.

Local women from the surrounding farms and church congregations arrived in pickup trucks loaded with coolers of coffee, ham sandwiches, and hot dishes, setting up an open-air mess station in the bed of a truck to keep the crews running.

The combines dropped their headers into the grain and moved side by side across the amber fields, cutting a half-mile wide swath with every pass. They ran without stopping. As soon as a combine hopper filled, a grain cart pulled alongside on the fly, loaded the grain, and rushed it to waiting semis bound for the local elevator.

In roughly seven hours of relentless, coordinated work, sixty neighbors finished what would have taken Lane weeks to complete on his own. By late afternoon, all one thousand acres were harvested, hauled, and safely in the bins. The fields were swept clean, and the Unhjem family’s livelihood was secured while Lane lay in a medically induced coma.

When news crews later reached out to Don Anderson and the other farmers to ask why men would risk their own harvests for another family, Anderson was almost embarrassed by the attention.

"It's just what you do," he said simply. "Everybody knows the Unhjems. When someone needs help, you don’t think about it. You just show up."

Lane Unhjem survived, woke up in that Minot hospital bed, and returned home to discover that while he was fighting for his pulse, his community had ensured his family wouldn't lose the farm.

Kenyan prostitutes are blaming President Trump for the rise in HIV-positive prostitutes in Kenya after USAID cuts.

In 2025, US taxpayer dollars stopped funding Kenyan hookers, thanks to President Trump.
