There are many in society who's solution is to lower standards when there's a failure to meet them. That isn't a solution.

If we are to be people of principles & character, it is we that must change (not standards). Teach the truth even if we don't always hold up to it.

No amount of woe-is-me whining from the teacher’s union will change the fact that teachers get an absurd amount of paid vacation. Way, way, way more than almost anyone in any other profession gets. That has to be taken into account whenever they claim to be underpaid.

It used to be that we made tin gods out of buffoons in Hollywood. But we have changed this type of coronation.

The new heirs to the throne are a class of buffoons comprised of bloggers & youtubers. Professions that are more debased than anything from Hollywood.

5 weeks is still an incredibly long vacation and a privilege that most working Americans do not have. I haven’t had a vacation that long since I was in high school. Why can’t teachers admit that they have these perks? Why the martyr complex? I don’t get it.

BTW, a teacher also has to be cognizant of how much time off she uses as it will be counted against her in end year evaluations.

So this mountain of paid time off a teacher has as you've suggested (if it exisits) a teacher may have it, but she can only use a fraction.

You can't use paid leave when school is shut down over the summer any more than you can use it durring spring break or holidays. You are only contracted to use whatever paid vacation you have durring the contracted working months.

@MattWalshBlog And if that really true, why don't you sign up to be a teacher then instead of complaining about a non-existent perk! Folks like you think teachers are better off, so why don't you get in on it.

@MattWalshBlog My wife and I budget especially for those 5 weeks she is out of work durring the summer. She picks up a second job to fill in those times. Explain to her & to me where this perk of vaction time is because we are clearly doing it all wrong.

@cryptofund4 @MattWalshBlog Also, reading, social studies, and math are taught based on grade level and what your child has learned from the last year. If your child went through 1st grade and still only has kinder level comprehension, my wife is now trying to teach two levels of education.

@cryptofund4 @MattWalshBlog Those standards on what my wife can and is allowed to teach changes constantly throughout the year based on how well the school as a whole is graded. Doesn't matter how well your teaching style produced results, you will made to change iy if the state doesn't like it.

@cryptofund4 @MattWalshBlog My wife changes those plans yearly based on previous students & what she is being told she is getting next year which changes at the last minute before it starts.

Furthermore, the county calls the shots on what she can teach, the standards that she HAS to follow regardless.
