I'm super excited that my roundtable was accepted for @ASALH 2024- a roundtable on Black Pittsburgh w/ @DKlanderud, @LeeCilli, @aaronbcowan & the OG, Joe Trotter. Pencil it in, "Place, Politics, and the Future of Black Pittsburgh History"! #Blackpittsburgh#BlackHistory
Loved hearing @DKlanderud reassert a community's right to its own stories, calling out academics who research local communities & then publish their version as "the history". Ethics, humility, and respect--great tools for teaching how to learn from and with people. #UHA2023
"The law also forbids public colleges from offering general education courses ... [that teach] that systemic racism, sexism, oppression, or privilege are inherent in the institutions of the United States..."
This is a death blow. Here's what happens next...

@LorienTinuviel I'm just confusing to people. I took my husband's Swedish last name, but he's Black, Swedish, and Indigenous. I'm a Black biracial woman working in Black studies with a Swedish last name. It's been interesting...

@YesHunter@CulturedModesty I teach a class called Do no harm? A Black history of Medicine and Technology. I have a whole syllabus if your friend is interested.
@JohannNeem@benjamingwright@jacob_bruggeman@AHAhistorians I don't think I'm going back to AHA any time soon. One thing that will need to happen is addressing the gross elitism present in a lot of attendees. Your colleagues who work at community college or undergrad institutions or adjunct are just as good as their ivy counterparts.
Btw, I organized the panel by enlisting scholars from whom I've learned a lot about both the problem and potential solutions. I recommend following and reading @erin_bartram, @DKlanderud, @varsha_venkat_, and @JohannNeem.
