Tripp and Southern State (Springfield, SD) graduate Jim Uttecht was part of 12 football state championships at West Central High School. In 2015, West Central renamed its field in honor of Uttecht.

At Tripp High School in the 1960s, Uttecht quarterbacked the undefeated 1964 mythical state 8-man football champs, started on the 1965 state “B’’ runner-up basketball team and set the school pole vault record. At Southern State, Uttecht started four years at quarterback and lettered four years in basketball.

Please join us as we celebrate Jim as part of the 2025 induction class for the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 14 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Social hour and media availability of inductees begins at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m.

The bottom of this photo, you can see Ladder 118 crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge on their way to the World Trade Center. This is their last known photo. Every single firefighter on that truck perished just a few minutes later. We vowed to never forget. Unfortunately, many have.
