@CentristMadness Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately:
Picture any Republican/RW/conservative people you know.
Do these people spend a lot of time on Twitter?
Yet it seems there are an overwhelming number of very RW accounts on here, and RW accounts get massive engagement
🤔
@thought_less_@CentristMadness This is the kind of thing that people actually react to. It’s a perfect narrative of incompetence. It should be being hammered endlessly.
Right now most people don’t even seem aware that it happened.
@thought_less_@CentristMadness Agreed but it’s hard to think of a more visceral and hand-crafted example of the chaos than Trump refusing to name an FAA head for two week, having the helicopter/plane collision, then sending an email asking air traffic controllers to resign, and 24 hours later having this
@CameronCorduroy@mateosfo Somehow I doubt “leftists” will tweet endlessly about how the the spike in produce prices means “so many people are hurting rn” and its impacts on “the lived experience of working people”
@magi_jay The truly insidious part is the “likes”
The accounts that don’t post the terrible takes but just amplify the ones made by others and give them veneer of social proof.
Very few people ever dive into the likes and check how legit those accounts are.
And now you literally can’t!
@magi_jay Unfortunately that’s not even a good way to tell anymore. They have so many accounts, many of them for years
I’m really happy to see you and some others really trumpeting how prevalent the actual online influence campaigns are.
IMO it’s the biggest factor in all of politics now
@mattyglesias They purposefully did not keep records of the separations, so when the Biden admin worked to reunite who they could, there was no record of “this child who we took from this person was sent here”
Often they just sent the child to custody and deported the parents out of country
@mattyglesias The family separation policy was not vibes. Thousands of parents had their children taken from them
The Trump admin fought in court for the right to not provide soap or toothpaste to the children in custody (again, separated from their parents, many of whom never saw them again)
@NYY_Gossip@bfurnas@nicolegelinas The relevant market is for “driving” in that area.
If there’s no market for it, then no one will have to pay the charge. Works out nicely.
