He was the inspiration for teaching myself blues guitar and learning how to sing these songs we loved so much. He made it cool and all right.
Not only was he a virtuoso on guitar, harp, singing and choosing songs, to me it felt like he was totally possessed by the blues.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and inspiration, John Hammond, Jr. From the first time I heard him on the first blues album I bought, Blues at Newport β63 on Vanguard Records, I was just knocked out and have felt that way about him ever since.

Today is one of the most hot and humid days in Floridaβs recent history.
Heat indices have soared into the 120s across parts of the state, including Tampa, which recorded a heat index of 120Β°F at 2:35 PM.
Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes, and heat stroke is a serious risk with prolonged exposure to this extreme heat.
This is exceptional heat and humidity, even for a state accustomed to it.
Have not seen a wildfire setup like this for Central Texas in many years.
Folks, this is as bad as it gets tomorrow. Howling winds, extreme drought, dormant fuels following extreme cold in late February... Be extremely vigilant and mindful of anything that could spark a fire

β’ Damaging Winds β Southerly gusts of 45-65 mph, capable of toppling trees, damaging weak structures, and causing widespread power outages.
β’ Severe Thunderstorm & Weak Tornado Potential β The latest HRRR model data (18Z, 0Z) indicates the presence of a squall line, increasing the risk of isolated severe thunderstorms and weak tornadoes between 12 PM and 10 PM Thursday.
β’ Scattered to Widespread power Outages β Areas at risk include the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County, and portions of Los Angeles County, where infrastructure could be severely impacted.

Authorities urge residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare emergency supplies. Those in flood-prone and burn scar areas should be especially vigilant for potential debris flows and flash flooding.
This is a rapidly evolving situation and further updates in the next 24 to 30 hours.
